I haven't gotten surgery yet but have done all my appts and just waiting on my approval for the surgery . And unless you're looking for someone to say you can have surgery next month than you should just look into drs specializing in bariatrics in yr area. I had no problem and it sounds like many others have had gd experiences with getting approved. Worse they can say is no but I wouldn't just fly to Tijuana for my first choice. Gd luck.

I went to the seminar, then to the first appointment and after that, went to see my primary for a letter of medical necessity. She was super supportive of me doing this.

My insurance did not require six months of supervised diets, but between all the appointments to check for co-morbities and meeting my pre-op weight loss percentage, the process was about 6 or 7 months. My point is, do not let 6 months of supervised dieting discourage you from trying to get it covered, because it will likely take that long to get through all of your pre-op testing anyways.

Even though the surgery is less expensive in Mexico than it is to private pay in the US, it still would save you money if your insurance would cover it here, because your out of pocket would hopefully be much lower.

But heck, if you’re sitting on a pile of cash and want to see Mexico- then do what works for you.

I can now buy clothes in normal stores again. Admittedly the first time when I started trying on clothes, I really had to keep myself calm. Normally trying on clothes causes me to become SOOO depressed that it take weeks just to get over it. Now, I have to keep myself from not wanting to buy everything!

Hi, congrats on your surgery!  Saw you went to Dr. Pleatman.  I've been between doing the Lap Band and sleeve.  I was suppose to have a consultation with Dr. Pleatman this month.  So far great experience with his office coordinator Carrie (sp?).   Feeling really scared and nervous about getting the sleeve.  If you can share...how was your experience with Dr. Pleatman's office and the surgery?   Thanks!

I'm not new, I was an active Lapbander from:

February 6, 2017 Here I am on October 4, 2019 thinking back over my Lapband journey and how I thought I would be banded for life. Unfortunately, I have been sick for some time, and am on medications; and well my weight has constantly slowly increased. I was 225 pounds when I had my Lapband surgery on Dec. 17, 2010. At least my weight hasn't reached 210. I have been fluctuating between 202-206. For that, I'm grateful. I'm just excited to be able to have another tool to assist me with my weight loss journey. I'm not looking forward to the liquid stage, however.
