Pre-Op diet with 2nd Thoughts

Recommended Posts

I am day 2 in liquid diet pre-op and having second thoughts. I know it's just food addiction and fear of surgery talking but I am determined to continue on.

Did anyone else have this issue? What did you do to change thought pattern? Is this surgery (sleeve) worth it?

When I doubted my decision I would remind myself what surgery means for my future and how I'll be much more healthy soon. Hugs!

Oh hun ur going to have more doubts after surgery but when you start seeing the results you will be happy. I’m only a week post op and whined and had buyers remorse probably the first 4 days because I wanted to eat but wasn’t hungry. Emotions all over the place. But today at my post op appointment Im down 18lbs in a week. (Drastic i know but I’m super restricted) but listen getting on that scale and seeing 301 made it worth it. Just push through and remember why you started. Come on here everyday and complain don’t give up!

I had my sleeve surgery on August 17, 2018. I ended up having to stay in the hospital for 5 days due to issues from the anesthesia. After coming home it was really difficult for me to still eat. The Protein Shakes made me sick so I had to switch to Protein Powder and almond milk. It's been a huge struggle, however; I'm taking it one day at a time. The one thing that they don't tell you in all the classes and appointments is that your emotions will be all over the place. You will cry at the littlest things or get frustrated and angry and go through the stage where you will be saying "why did I do this". It does get better.

Well now I am on to the squishy stage and starting to eat real food, however; I am afraid to eat. I can't tell if I'm full or not. Anyone have any suggestions or advise on how to tell if you are full. The only thing that I found out was if you get the hiccups while your eating it's your tummy saying stop no more food.

Thank you!

I didn't think about the hiccups. I've been getting them on this liquid diet.< br>

Can't really speak to the surgery's "worth" without knowing your stats. But overall, WLS is "worth it" when the risk of not having the surgery is higher than having the surgery.

Everyone is going to have some second thoughts, reservations, fears, anxieties, etc over a major surgery, that's 100% normal. Just keep reminding yourself of all the reasons you want the surgery.

Hi Matt. I am day 4 of pre op diet and i can totally relate to your feelings. This week i am on 3 shakes and a meal. I find myself counting down to dinner. My anxiety over the surgery is through the roof. I rely alot on my wife who is my biggest support person and i have a wonderful therapist who helps process my feelings.

Yes, your emotions will be all over the place. A good friend of mine also had sleeve sugery and she is a nurse. She told me as you loose fat it releases hormone and she also said it will be for the next few months. Take it one day at a time. Before you know it you will be time for squishy foods. Hang in there. You got this.

I'm on day 3 of the 7 day liquid diet. I just keep reminding myself that this is for my future self and that without doing this I won't have much of a chance at a quality life. I'm quite proud that I haven't gotten my hangry tongue out yet. Its a battle but we can do it!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
