Why liquids after fill?

Recommended Posts

Can anyone please tell me why we have to do liquids after a fill? I should have just asked my Doctor yesterday but I guess I didn't think of it. Also how long did you doc say to consume liquids? :help:

I haven't been banded yet but it is my understanding that it is to give you time to heal. The band needs to find its resting spot. Hope that helps. If someone out there feels I'm wrong please let me know.

My doc doesnt tell you to do this.

Of course, many people find they have to, that they're very sensitive after a fill and need to take time to work things out again.

I dont find it necessary for me, I can eat normally, if cautiously.

My doctor hasn't said anything about liquids after a fill. I had my first on 11/20 and second on 11/27 and he never said anything either time. Should I be cautious? Could I be damaging something??

I don't think you can damage anything if you eat solids. Liquids and then mushies is because of the swelling that can occur during a fill. My doctor recommends 24 hours of liquids, followed by 24 hours of mushies then solids.

Had my first fill under x-ray this morning. Surgery was 7/11/07. Was doing OK but slowed down to 1/2 lb per week. Tried to do in office but could not feel port. He said that since he could see it fill he put in more than he would normally in the office.

His advice was to stay on liquids for a day or 2 then mushies then solids

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
