Does my pouch need stretched by the dr?

Recommended Posts

I’m two months out and I’m still only able to eat MAYBE three tablespoons of food. Any more than that and I feel it coming back up. Is that pretty typical? I know people say you can eat about one cup of food when all is said and done, but when is that typically? I have a dr appt sept 6 so I’ll obvi talk to my doc. Just wondered if anyone has had such a tight restriction like me. I’d like to be able to eat a tiny plate of food instead of spoonfuls 😬 should I ask him to stretch me out a little? Idk the terminology for it lol

You don't want your pouch stretched and besides the doctor won't do that. It can in time stretch out but you want to be careful of the. Too much stretching will make it so you can eat more and that is not what we had the surgery for. By a years time you should be able to eat a cup of food.

That sounds about right to me. I am almost 4 months out and able to eat about 1/2 cup or so before it becomes uncomfortable. It is a plus to me to be satisfied completely with eating that much food. I still put it on a small plate and sometimes if I put a little too much on there my husband finishes it for me.

Three tablespons is about right at this stage. Time and healing will relax it.

I was only able to eat about 2 oz of solid food at 2 months out. I'm almost 4 months out now and can eat around 4 oz give or take depending on what it is. Definitely bring up your concerns at your dr. appt. but it sounds like you're right where you should be.

I was just rereading my paperwork last night and I read that 1/4 cup for the first three months is pretty normal, then move to 1/3 cup. I think just don't over do it, listen to your body it knows best.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
