finally lost 100 pounds and now what is up?

Ok so I am new around here. I have been doing pretty well with my band, felt like I had hit my sweet spot, was able to eat fairly normal foods in minimal quantity but still had good restriction. I was supposed to go get another fill this last month but cancelled because I didn't want to be too tight again, went through that once won't do it again. Even a little added makes a major difference to me. Well It seems like I have heartburn 24 lately now and I am having trouble eating because of it. I try to eat and I get uncomfortable or it's painful so I stop and then it gets worse so I don't try at all. The hearburn just continues on which make me want to eat less and less. My stress level hasn't really changed and nothing new emotionally so I can't realy account for it. I am not even someone to have heartburn, last time I had it I was pregnant with my 4 year, I had a hysterectomy in February so I know that isn't the case either...any ideas? Anyone ever go through anything like this? I asked someone in my office and they said it means you are too tight or too loose but how would I suddenly change like that? Weight loss has been steadily 1-1.5 pounds a week since my last fill 4 months ago.

It just does, with no explanation.

I have been tight as tight for the last week, really dont know why. I'm not normally, but it happens suddenly and then it goes away with no explanation.

it could be as simple as something you ate causing some irritation and perhaps a really mushy diet for a few days will help.

If it does continue, I'd see the doc though.

Hmmmm.....have you been eating dark chocolate? spicey foods? Been taking meds that might irritate your esophagus? Eating late at night? Overfilling your pouch? That's about all I can think of right off.....other than a band that decided to tighten up on you. That's what happened to me. I thought my band was fine, but had symptoms of ulcers, lots of acid reflux for about 4 months. When they did my EGD, my 'diagnosis' was wrong - my band was just too tight. Got a slight unfill and I'm fine now.

Hope you get it under controlled.....acid reflux is miserable and it can do damage to the esophagus. Take care!

for me , the heartburn will cause my esophogus to swell and then i cant get anything down. so i have to be careful not to get heartburn. if i throw up, this will cause same problem . swelling . so i have to go back to liquids to heal. if the liquids dont work , then i have fill taken out. so i have learned to not eat before bed or lying down. i also have to watch my stress and make sure i get lots of rest and exersize. i just had a fill a few weeks ago and i am really careful this time not to eat too quickly or get too stressed. so far so good.

Someone was telling me about a new band that had little pillows around it, and each filled independently. I think the old bands are one tube that fills so the restriction can vary from side to side. Maybe that is the reason for some of the change in restriction without fills or whatever. And maybe I'm just nutz!! :)

I have been banded for 5 1/2 months now and I agree with Wasabubble and Jachut....it could be anything and sometimes it just happens....In my short time being a bandster I been too tight, too loose all in the same month and it could have been stress or any number of things. I think you need to get it checked out by your doc because having indigestion 24/7 isn't good. Good luck and keep us posted.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
