Recommended Posts

Hi All!

I'm so happy to have found this forum! I'm 24 yrs old from London, UK, and i am due to have my weight loss surgery (abroad! eek!) in next month!!

Anyone else from the UK/Europe? Anyone else having their weight loss surgery in September? how do you feel and how are you preparing for it?

ANY TIPS ARE MUCH APPRECIATED!

I'd love to hear from you! :)

Welcome! I'm not from the UK, but just vacationed there (Scotland) and it was pretty amazing!

Some of my pre-op prep was:

Stop drinking fluids while eating meals, wait 30 min after eating to drink

Learn to eat in smaller bites by using baby spoons/forks

Stop carbonated drinks and caffeine (I weaned off coffee before surgery to prevent the caffeine withdrawal headache while in the hospital, plus my doc wants all his patients to be caffeine free for at least 6 months after surgery)

And I started using the myfitnesspal app to track my food and fluids and still use it now, it's a big help

Awesome! Yes, I've been told Scotland is beautiful. I have never been but I would love to!

Yes, I have cut down on coffee and luckily I've never had a thing for carbonated drinks. I do need to drink a lot more Water though.

Thanks for your advice! and good luck! :)

My date is September 7, 2018 I'm super excited and can't wait to be over the 2-3 week mark, I stopped coffee myself because I know those headaches can be a monster, I've purchased wrap ice pack not sure if I'll need but, we can use one in the house regardless, I purchased a compression wrap, but need to check with doctor if I can use it. Purchased two different types of Vitamins just in case one doesn't agree with me, a smart water bottle that remind me to drink by lighting up and anything else I'll need I will get once I finish up my testing on August 17th this will most likely be Clear Liquids, broths, 2-3 cases of Water. I also purchased Gas X which I may purchase something else after getting these I realized I've used before and they did not agree with my stomach, I purchased Bio oil for scar's and Biotin for hair. Also, Portion Control containers.

I use Baritastic app on my phone for checklist, reminders, weight, recipes and etc.

No I wasn't advised to lose, but I"m sure I will when I start the liquid diet a few days before surgery. I've been able to avoid a lot of the things most people going through insurance have to do, although I have great insurance I chose to avoid that mess all together because I probably wouldn't have qualified as I don't have any co-mordiditie illnesses and my BMI is on the low end of 35 the only thing I suffer with sometimes is GERD and that's just based on the foods I eat.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
