Seven Days in and Feeling Zero Motivation

Recommended Posts

I’m seven days post-op, and I think I’m healing well. Minimal pain and doing okay on the liquid diet (some head hunger but no nausea or anything like that). I’m feeling very blah, though. Not depressed or exhausted but really flat and lacking motivation to do even small things. Is this normal?

The anesthesia can sometimes have different effects on people's psyche. Also, your body has just been through something pretty traumatic.

Personally, I was uncharacteristically emotional for a few weeks post-op (and a little depressed).

Be easy with yourself, you've just had surgery. :)

thanks for that. i think i may have underestimated how big a deal it would be. all i feel like doing is lying around and watching tv. (hello, all three series of broadchurch!) i’m doing my walking and building up activity, but anything that requires mental exursion is just a no go. like i’ve been putting off a simple email for days now. just wanted to get a reality check and see if this has happened to others. 🙃

I had all I could do to just shower, get dressed, and go for my daily walks. I remember my mom came and took me out for the first time post op and I lasted all of 45 minutes in the bookstore and I was ready to go home.

I think it’s normal. Do your walking. If your body needs to rest though....let it rest a bit.

All I read was David Tennant, but I think you're going to be OK.

Don’t forget that our bodies are literally starving even though we don’t feel the hunger that intese. Our caloric intake is so low it’s expected to be low energy. I’m 9 days post op and have been pretty lazy.

Totally normal. Focus on healing up first, then worry about anything else.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
