When did you know your surgery date?

Recommended Posts

Hi everybody! I'm new here but was reading for 1mo. I'm 62, 5'5" with low bmi 36.4 but i want my healthy and active life back. I started WLS in mid April: met with surgeon, nutritionist, had 5 appts with psychologist and passed psy.eval. I'm in the process and will complete my medically supervised diet in September and will do sleep study on July 31st. My insurance is Fed.BCBS and I'm worried about my low bmi. But i have 2 co-morbidities.

I wonder at what point of your process you learned about your surgery date? I assume it is subject of insurance approval? Thank you.

Call and ask your surgery team if your worried. My guess you will find out when you finish diet in Sept as long as all requirements are finished . Welcome, we have similar stats with height and BMI. I have comorbidities too and they found more as we went a long, lol. I have 20 more days until my surgery. I started the process mid Feb and finished in June. I am almost there. Good luck

35% with 2 comorbidities should be approved, I've got GEHA now, BCBS back in 2011. Some folks get a date before insurance approval. For me, my first approval attempt was denied because they wanted me to have 6 months of medically followed diet and exercise, even though I had the band for 6 years. The second attempt was approved, I had my date a week after than, and less than a month later, I had my surgery.

Just got approved by my insurance now just waiting on the call for my surgery date. My journey started 3/6/18. 4 months of supervised visits.

Had my first appointment on January 15. My final supervised appt. was July 11, and my paperwork was submitted for insurance approval on July 20th apparently. Waiting now for approval. Surgery is tentatively scheduled for August 13th.

Insurance is United Healthcare.

My surgery coordinator set me up with a surgery date the day she submitted to insurance. It was June 6 and my surgery date is Aug 6. It could have even been a couple weeks earlier but that date worked out best with my vacation schedule.

Today I got notified of insurance approval for the DS! So it took a business week.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
