I had my VSG yesterday, so far so good. No nausea, hardly any pain. I have been walking a lot to alleviate the gases, but I do have 1 concern, sometimes when I drink a liquid I feel a constriction between my breasts... almost feels like Water is fighting with gas?? Any help or ideas?

Sounds like gas. Does it disappear when you walk?

Congratz on your surgery! Way to go!

Did the doctor do a hiatal hernia repair? If so, it could be that it is a bit swollen there and you are just experiencing the Water passing the swelling. It could also be a combination of that plus gas.

Yes, I had a hiatal hernia repair. It does help when I walk, but the swallowing isn’t improving yet. I keep going, but it does limit my intake.
Does the HH repair increase swelling?

Well, it causes swelling where your esophagus goes through your diaphragm because your doctor closed up the herniated openings. The swelling should go down in a bit but if it does not, call your surgical team's office and have it checked out. I've also heard about tightening of the entrance to the stomach after sleaving and that can be stretched by the doctor during an upper endoscopy.

You are only a day post-op. It does take a bit of time. I understand that it can be an uncomfortable feeling, but it will be ok. :)

I did not have hernia repair but did have similar feeling when taking to big of a sip or taking to many little sips too quickly. I kept to tiny tiny sips and slowed down when drinking and it helped. I didn't just get them from sipping Water, sometimes I would get the feeling when I moved my upper body in certain ways. I guessing it's air in the belly getting displaced.

I had hiatal hernia repair, umbilical hernia repair & gastric sleeve on 7/23, I’m in a lot of discomfort & having difficulty swallowing - dr just prescribed me levsin so we’ll see if that helps.
Wishing you a speedy recovery

I was sleeved on the 23rd. I had 2 hernias that had to be repaired. I have not had trouble swallowing, but still feeling the gas pain in my chest. I walk around my apartment parking lot so it helps along with Gas X.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
