Pre op diet (liquid only)cheats: one night I had 6 crackers and a mushroom, another day I had a kids meal of chicken and broccoli from PF Chang’s. The final cheat was a slice of cauliflower crust pizza.

I lost 15 pounds on my pre op diet but my surgeon said my liver was still fatty. I am down 6 pounds since my surgery on Wednesday.

I guess my post op cheats have been eating soft foods (well cooked, flaky fish that literally melts in my mouth and scrambled eggs) when I havent been cleared to do so. So far stomach has handled it well but I know it’s bad. But the energy boost I get almost instantly from the Protein is hard to deny.

I went to Texas Roadhouse on day 2 and ate cheese fries, a 20 oz ribeye, mushrooms, onions, a baked potato, and a side salad with ranch. On the last day I ate Arby’s. I kept to the diet for most of it. I only lost 10 lbs. I’ve lost 40 lbs now and it was worth it.

I’ve been to lots of fancy corporate meals lately and brought back leftovers and tried to clear the remainer out of the fridge by eating them throughout today. This was a terrible idea and I knew it all along but it pained me to throw away really delicious fancy food

So I have eaten WAY, WAY too much and now I feel grim. Ugh.

I figured it would be nice to have a section where we could just confess to some of the potentially dumb things we've done, pre or post op. Just so others can see we are all human. I want this to be kept as civil as possible, where people can own up to things without anyone else chiming in with anything negative, we all know what we did wasn't "right" but I'm sure we ALL have done something we shouldn't have.

I'll start.

I cheated on my pre-op diet a few times. I also like to find loop holes and exploit the crap out of them. I drank beer for a week+ on my pre-op, because it didn't say I couldn't. I only stopped after I was forced to, because my wife asked my surgeon and of course they said "no"... boo. I also ate a whole slice of French meat Pie at my Dad's 60th birthday luncheon.

I cheated on my post-op diet/puree stage a bit too. I ate rice cakes and Protein chips or other veggie chips. Not a lot, but it happened. I "pureed" a steak and cheese sandwich once. I ate a few fried ravioli on my puree stage as well.

This past weekend, I had a beer. My wife and I took my parents out to dinner at a local casino, it's Restaurant week, so we found a good looking location and went out to eat, part of the deal was that you got a draft beer with your meal. So, I had a shipyard summer ale with my grilled chicken parm sandwich (only ended up eating 3 bites of the chicken and none of the bread).

I did all that thus far and nothing bad happened.
I understand the changes are to ensure we stick to our diets, but understanding that we are all human and WILL either slip up or just stray from our diets on purpose like I did. It's good to see that, it's possible to still live and be able to enjoy a few things we "shouldn't" without any negatives happening.

So, what's your WLS confession?
I and only 6 days out from surgery and I am really having a had time of resisting Chips and dip that my every so supportive husband brought into the house last night! HELP!!!!

This is the best post/thread ever! I am 12 days post-op (gastric sleeve) and tonight I blended some chicken tortilla Soup - even though I’m not on puréed foods yet. It was so good and it didn’t bother me at all - but I do feel a bit guilty!

I love this posting idea. I’m glad to know I’m not the only one who has broken the rules. So, after surgery I went too fast on stages and had CARBS, which I’m not supposed to eat for six months. I ended up back in the hospital and went back to Clear Liquids. Now I’m 6 weeks post op and over the past two weeks I have had a couple things I am not supposed to- 1 mozzarella stick, 2 buffalo chicken bites. My body seems to know that eating “off plan” is not good, as I generally throw up what I’ve eaten pretty quickly after. I had champagne on an international business flight- that went down with no problems. And when I am sick, I drink a little diet sprite. And I’ve eaten chocolate. Wow, that is actually quite a bit. And while I haven’t purposely cheated on taking them- I HATE the (what feels like) millions of Vitamins and pills I have to take everyday.

Not so much a cheat - Indulging while maintaining

Ordered the mile high mud pie at the ram. Only 1,593 calories for half a piece. Shared it with my hubby.

So glad this is here! I need to confess!!!! Lol I didn’t have a two week liquid diet pre surgery but I had to fast 24 hours before and nothing after 10 am that morning but liquids and nothing at all including Water after midnight. I can say I had a lot of food funerals the weeks before and I actually gained 4 lbs the day of weigh in for surgery :(. So the first week about day five or six when I could do clear liquids I consumed 2 32oz bluebell vanilla ice cream cups....& I got soooooooo sick! I did not and currently do not want ice cream anymore blah! You think I learned my lesson then, right? NOPE. So second week into full liquids...I found I could suck and chew down Doritos chips and spit it out...I just needed to chew something!! Then I ventured to find Cheetos white cheddar puffs and did the same thing except I learned I could swallow a little bit with no sickness. So glad to could get that off my chest. Now I’m on soft foods and I honestly have found three recipes on the Baritastic app that has helped me so far. I am using a kids spoon and measuring out two tablespoons of food at a time. TBH I am scared that I will fail at this keeping up with Protein and eating enough. Thanks for forum post :).

Pft this thread. Yeah... um... I gained 15lbs during my "food funerals" between my first appointment and the last one I had (June 6th - mid-September) and after finding out that I hadn't lost a single pound in 7 days on my pre-op diet, I went and got Burger King AND Taco Bell yesterday sooooo. Yeah. Actually feel pretty ashamed about it since I didn't even make it a solid 7 days without slipping up. I'm sure post-op NEXT WEEK will be peachy..

I absolutely love the thread.

My godson is staying w/ us for a week. I picked him up earlier today. He's 4 and of course he wanted McDonald's. I had 3-4 of his fries. They were heavenly!

I'm 2 1/2 weeks post-op and had no ill affects!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
