OK with the holidays I've been nibbling on the Cookies. Still losing weight and still tracking numbers. I won't be able to get completely on track until after oldest son bday. Today is youngest. Rumchata cheesecake for him. Jan 4 is next one. Rumchata caramel flan. Avoiding alcohol still (4m postop). So just a bite or two but still a cheat

Christmas eve party with the neighbours, sausage rolls (x2) peanuts (protein!) sour cream and chives pretzels and quite a bit of alcohol.

To be fair though, I ate very little beforehand and its only the second time I have had alcohol since my sleeve 7 months ago :)

For the past month leading up to my pre op liquid diet (which I'm currently on day 3/14, ya i had to start Dec. 24th), I ate Everything! that I wanted calling it my bucket list... this included but was not limited to fast food, buffets, ice creams, cakes/pies, chips, candy, etc... I indulged like I was living my last day. I know that I was suppose to be "trying to lose weight" per my Dr's request. But I wanted to taste/eat everything that I could before things got real.

No regrets :)

Vacationing in Florida and Im doing pretty well! I've had sime calculated "cheats" but none of it has gotten out of control. Just need to make sure it stays that way. Ex: a bite of a donut, a small chai tea spread out over the whole day, a bite of pizza, some dark chocolate

Haha, I was hoping the same thing. I used to drink a lot of it & then completely stopped, but I’ve seriously been craving it since my op.

Olly, I know the feeling!! I just couldn’t take it anymore. I was out to dinner and was so sick of Water. I find it really bugs me if I’m out because it’s basically water or nothing. I decided to just try it and I feel fine. Maybe a bit full after each sip, but I drank so little it didn’t make a difference in my food intake. Totally worth it!

Well, the holidays have been rough! So many parties, so much good smelling food, and I couldn't eat any of it. I was bad over the holiday, at 12 days post op I ate the inside of a deviled egg (not the boiled white part), and on Christmas, I ate the inside of another deviled egg and a tablespoon of mashed unsweetened sweet potatoes which I could not finish. Even though my diet plan doesn't have me starting pureed foods until Friday. I ate slowly an added saliva when I would put the food in my mouth to thin it out more. I KNOW IT WAS WRONG BUT IT TASTED SO GOOD! and I was very satisfied and didn't feel sick or overly full. I haven't had anything even semi-solid in almost 5 weeks so that was a real joy.

I figured it would be nice to have a section where we could just confess to some of the potentially dumb things we've done, pre or post op. Just so others can see we are all human. I want this to be kept as civil as possible, where people can own up to things without anyone else chiming in with anything negative, we all know what we did wasn't "right" but I'm sure we ALL have done something we shouldn't have.

I'll start.

I cheated on my pre-op diet a few times. I also like to find loop holes and exploit the crap out of them. I drank beer for a week+ on my pre-op, because it didn't say I couldn't. I only stopped after I was forced to, because my wife asked my surgeon and of course they said "no"... boo. I also ate a whole slice of French meat Pie at my Dad's 60th birthday luncheon.

I cheated on my post-op diet/puree stage a bit too. I ate rice cakes and Protein chips or other veggie chips. Not a lot, but it happened. I "pureed" a steak and cheese sandwich once. I ate a few fried ravioli on my puree stage as well.

This past weekend, I had a beer. My wife and I took my parents out to dinner at a local casino, it's Restaurant week, so we found a good looking location and went out to eat, part of the deal was that you got a draft beer with your meal. So, I had a shipyard summer ale with my grilled chicken parm sandwich (only ended up eating 3 bites of the chicken and none of the bread).

I did all that thus far and nothing bad happened.

I understand the changes are to ensure we stick to our diets, but understanding that we are all human and WILL either slip up or just stray from our diets on purpose like I did. It's good to see that, it's possible to still live and be able to enjoy a few things we "shouldn't" without any negatives happening.

So, what's your WLS confession?

So far I only cheated once and it was during my pre-op liquid diet. We had a friends Christmas party on the 15th and I made 10lbs of my home made mac and cheese. It smelled SOOOOO good, so maybe I had like 5 bites and man was it worth it.

Bless me for I potentially gonna sin. Good(?) friend brought Tomkitten and I Homemade peanut brittle, maybe I just lick a piece? Oh my will was strong but I think that zip lock bag is trying to call my name. Maybe I hide it under his pillow in his room? Oh so so tempting and I usually. don't like peanuts That Much. Anybody got set of handcuffs so I can't reach my 👄 mouth?

Had champagne for Christmas and ouch! Switched to a dry rose after 2 sips and it was divine with the seafood buffet. I ate well, stuck to my portions and had a great day

Great idea, Matt!

I had TWO glasses of wine last night when hubby & I went out for our birthdays/anniversary. I had a designated driver and I don't feel guilty in the least. Part of me wishes I had gotten sick though, so that I wouldn't be tempted to do it again [emoji14] Additionally, I had the wine with my meal!
How far out from surgery was this. I want wine sooooo bad

Alright. I need everyone to know. Not crazy when I talk about Water quality. I went away and didn't reup my supply of good stuff so when I returned home I had to drink tap( boil and filter)

Massive heart burn all the way into my esophagus. I thought coincidence because of course it's not water causing reflux, so i employed the scientific method, continued the research and sure enough, It's the F'ing water.

Also, I ate whatever I wanted on vacay... So there a confession.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
