Probably depends on whether you do a lot of lifting at work. Your surgeon can tell you how long he/she recommends.

Thanks guys. I have a very active job in an urgent care. Having to do cpr lifting and bending frequently. Sometime you are told “you will be better in X amount of time” but I think I heal slower. Really enjoying the group.😁

I would suggest 3-4 weeks. You need to be the most important person in your life right after surgery. Even though you may feel great, your energy may be lower due to lack of Protein. You will be sipping Water constantly and learning a new way to eat. It helped not having the work demands on top of everything else.

I’m probably the far extreme, but I took 6 weeks. Glad I did too, my energy levels were no where near where they needed to be to go back. It’s not all about pain or physical recovery. Mentally, I was drained from a lack of calories. I took naps a lot and didn’t start feeling better until soft foods. I started working out at 4 weeks, but crashed everyday after my workout. Six week mark, I felt much more normal. It was a blessing to go back to work on a normal diet. Also, i didn’t have to navigate the food progression stages while working.

Hi! I’m a Patient Care Tech in an ER, and I’ve found the general consensus is to take the most time off as possible. It sucks working in a healthcare setting and having to take such a long amount of time off, but there isn’t really such a thing as “light duty” when you’re saving lives! Most surgeons also have lifting restrictions (like 10lbs until you’re six weeks out!) so unless you’re a NICU nurse, that might not be possible 😉 I’m still pre-op myself, and I’m not looking forward to putting the added stress on my coworkers (and my poor paycheck- holy cow) but you have to put yourself first!

My job is both desk and active. I work in a health care type setting as well and Doctor had me out 4 weeks. I wasn't allowed to lift over 20 lbs the first month, so that and he wanted me to focus on my new lifestyle before going back to work.

The funny thing about this is that it is asked so often, i asked it as well when i was getting ready for my surgery. The answer is it varies with each person, me personally i took 9 days and could have gone back much sooner, but i work a desk. So looking at the surgery itself, i was up the day of surgery and walking miles within the ward, i went home the next day after walking 7 miles within the ward, that being said one of the ladies i went through class with had a sleeve done on the same day as me and ended up being in the hospital for 4 days and went home on oxygen. So your recovery will be your recovery and that will drive your time off. The other factor for you is you will most likely be on restricted duties with the amount of weight you will be allowed to lift. Up until today i was restricted to 20lbs or less lifting to prevent hernias at your incisions.

I work from home as an RN who does insurance reviews. I sit all day and am on the computer. I took two full weeks off. Hope that’s enough.

Sounds like plenty of time, barring complications.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
