Vitamin Patches and your experience

Recommended Posts

Hi again everyone!

So far I cannot get the chewable vitamins down. I’ve been doing flintstones to compensate at least a little, but I know they’re not enough. I just can’t keep the Celebrate down and I was told I can’t do capsules until six months out.
So, have any of you tried the Patches and had lab work done after? We’re the labs ok?
If you haven’t done patches, have you tried the Tespo thing? Did that work for you?
I’m just really trying to get my Vitamins. I haven’t been able to keep any meat down 2 months after surgery, but I love the Isopure Protein Powder. Guess I’m going vegetarian. :)
Anyway, I found a way around the Protein issue, so now I’m looking for a solution to the Vitamin issue.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Personally, I just had an appt. with my Dietician & she said there isn’t enough studies nor evidence to show that the vitamin patches actually absorb what one needs.

i thought that lab work would show it, but like you said, I would need to know from someone whom is already using it. Although my dietician said the Tespo is a great alternative: drinking your Vitamins.

Not sure what you’re required to take but as for a Multivitamin, Nature Made Multi for her is a capsule but has powder you can release from the capsule and put into a drink.

Agree with above poster. There is not enough evidence to support the use of the vitamin patches. They have not been studied long term. Some people say their labs are ok but often it is people less than 2 years out from surgery, it can take some time for certain deficiencies to occur.

I would try liquid vitamins if chewables are not possible. Lastly I would try opening capsules as this may taste awful and if you are having a hard time already, you may find it difficult.

I hope you find something that works for you!

I use Calcium Patches because chewable Calcium makes me heave.
@Matt Z is the Vitamin Patch guru. There are other threads where he explains all. I’d use all of them right now if I didn’t have a few months of capsules stocked up.

Plus I just ordered some Tespo pods to try out.

I am personally very skeptical of vitamin patches. I don't believe that most Vitamins and minerals can be transdermally absorbed. And those that can, does a patch even have a sufficient quantities. I appreciate the anecdotal experience given by those that believe in them, but lab results aren't "real time" because deficiencies can take years to show up, and labs don't test for everything.

@moondoggie1983 Can you not swallow pills at this point, almost a month out? I couldn't tolerate chewables either, so I switched to pills at about 4 weeks.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
