I eat lots of yummy carbs. Potatoes, Beans, whole grains, fruits... I try and limit to about 60 max per day. But without my carbs, I'd hit a mental wall half way through the day.

@2shea- don't put out a challenge, there will be somebody on Bariatric Pal with an answer. Ergo, here I am.
I knew and still know a retired cannibal. Found Jesus, came to the USA for Bible College, he was from New Guinea, speaks English with an Australian accent, don't know if the, missionary was from there or just because he's from that area of the South Pacific. Fasinating Dude to sit and talk to. So some information for you.
People, at least the eatable ones, are called " long pork" due to,our omnivore diet we taste most like that. The US pork producers have an ad campaign calling Pork the other white meat, guess what ? That's us Too!
If you go to New Guinea, happen to be caught by cannibals that happen to speak English , tell them you are American. If they don't speak English, all bets are off. Okay, back to why you tell them you're American. We have so many, pesticides, hormones and overuse of antibiotics, we are not fit for human consumption. Frystr8, my friend David, never could pronounce his New Guinea one, and David said it,rough translated the same, said Even we don't care much for indigestion, nausea and vomiting.
Australian and New Zealanders taste like mutton.
They don't care much for the taste of Japanese , much, too fishy. But, he said, Grandfather said during the Second World War, you took what you could get to survive and get along.
Always wondered if he got homesick, if he went to the local steakhouse and ordered a slab of spareribs.
Hope all the information helps all of you! 😝🍛

I can’t decide if I’m horrified by this or want to laugh out loud at “Americans aren’t fit for human consumption” 😱😂

Mashed potatoes are part of MANY approved post-op plans. I ate a ton of them. Didn't hinder my weight loss at all.

We are at the mercy of an emerging science...doctors and nutritionists have their own ideas and prejudices...but the hard science has yet to written for these very grey waters.

Best to work with your group and follow their instructions. but be careful about believing you have the one answer for all....because chances are pretty good none of us do:)

I was told to use sweet potatoes or yams instead of regular white potatoes. If I recall correctly, it has to do with the lower glycemic load of the sweet potatoes. They didn't negatively effect my weight loss at all.

Sammi 123 someone told me
If it didn't breathe, it don't belong in your sleeve! Didn't buy it for 2 reasons. That negates plant'based Protein totally and second I am going,to be a RnY bypass, don't affect ME. Nah nah nah fooey-dooey!

True Matt! I still do a little white potatoes sparingly....but my go-to is sweet potatoes for just this reason.

I also like to make mashed potatoes with half regular potatoes, half blended cooked cauliflower (you can't even taste it in half potatoes) and lowfat buttermilk.....you get the flavor of milk and butter with so much less fat! (lowfat buttermilk also makes terrific ranch salad dressing)

So potatoes are a no veggie because they are a starch same as Beans corn rice and yucca most nutritionists don’t want starches in the diet not carbs big difference we’re allowed 50 grams of net carbs a day in weight loss phase just not starches

Beans are good for you, my Dr. Allows. Everyone should do what they think is best. We eat so little, eat what you like in moderation. If you like corn and beans eat it...its not cake. I find this forum to be ok for some things but far too restricting and fear mongering sometimes....

Oh trust me, I eat corn and beans. I was saying it sucks for the person who said it’s against their plan. My program allows back carbs, even starchy carbs, within moderation, of course. They also encourage a healthy amount of calories. I’m thankful I don’t have a “strict” program. I feel like I have more control eating things in moderation.

I’m sad Beans aren’t on my list. I thought chili would be great on soft foods. My protocol has limited carbs other than fruits and veggies until almost maintenance phase. I wonder if the protocols depend on which surgery. With the dumping of bypass maybe some doctors prefer to put off carbs. For the poster that said potato Soup was encouraged I’m so jealous. Love that soup. I do acknowledge for me I’m better off avoiding carbs til I get where I want to be. It would be a slippery slope. I do better on a tight leash. Lol.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
