Nearly a year post op and have developed ovarian cysts

Recommended Posts

So I’m nearly a year post op, I’m 55 years old still having my period. I started having excruciating pain the evening of June 10 on my left pelvic side. At 3 AM Monday morning my husband and I decided that this pain wasn’t going away and we went to ER where they discovered a large cyst on my right ovary. I have had no other pain before that time now my period had stopped for 2 1/2 months but I thought that was because I was starting to go into menopause but no pain still.

I had the sleeve and in these last 11 months I have lost over 110 pounds.

I was wondering if this was related to my weight loss in my body putting the estrogen “somewhere” like on my ovaries so that my ovaries could use it ?

Only your PCP/surgeon can assess that, so I won't even try to speculate. i would venture to say that hormones can do crazy things. We have put our bodies through an awful lot through WLS surgery. That alone makes for hormone hell, but to add menopause into the mix and wow, your body is struggling to find it's new equilibrium. Our bodies don't always like change, even when it's good for them. They can rebel!

Never heard of it before but I guess anything is possible. Your ovaries do weird things before they decide,to hang up,their spurs. Did weight loss surgery cause it? Doubtful, but you just never know. When you finish menopause in many societies you are considered a 👵WISE WOMAN. At 72 is the world🌎beating.a. wide, path. to my front door? Not yet, but I can live in hope.😝

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
