Why is it that we can no longer for the rest of our lives drink carbonated drinks or carbonated water like Perrier?

Recommended Posts

I had no carbonation or caffeine until I was 3 Months post op. I now drink 2 cups of coffee every morning and probably one or two flavored carbonated waters a day. Still losing weight and have had no side effects.

@apositivelife4me I am the prime example of why not to drink carbonated beverages! That along with other factors (had my son and switched on different medication) contributed to my stretching out my sleeve and now here I am getting a revision in 2 weeks. I would not recommend it for the better part of a couple of years post op if ever. It's not worth it!

Well sodas and stuff the answer is kind of obvious. But i drink sparkling flavored water all the time. Like several times per day (and regular Water too), i’ve had no issues with it.

I wouldn’t suggest it for other people though because everyone is different and some people experience pain with carbonation.

Need to highlight a point here . . .

BELCHING. It isn't cool if you don't live in a frat house. I tried straws a little, resulted in belching. Tried a little carbonation, resulted in belching.

Will have to pass for now on both. Do miss my occasional diet coke, but it isn't worth the resulting loud noises.

My silly sleeve is loud enough on it's own

I was addicted to diet drinks for many years, as I got fatter and fatter. Last February I had a Saddle Pulmanary Embolism and almost died. While in the hospital my respirologist would not let me have any pop - so cold turkey it was. I never started drinking it again, thanks goodness.

Then after starting the Bariatric program in August of last year my nutritionist started pulling me off everything else in preparation for surgery. First iced tea (it was sweetened), then carbonated Water, then caffiene. I'm now 6 weeks out, and have had regular coffee a couple of times. No problems with it but I find I don't need it. I imagine I will go back to the occasional diet drink after 6 months or so, but I don't need it like I used to.

After the two month post op stage, I started drinking carbonated beverages. No problems whatsoever. No gas, no pouch stretching, no tummy aches.

I am 2 yrs out and I firmly believe the all the diet soda I was drinking stretched my sleeve. I will find out by how much the 27th when I go for my floroscopy for my revision to RNY. Lesson learned.

I am not talking about drinking soda pop. I am just wondering about drinks like sugar free sparkling Water like Perrier. I used to really enjoy sparkling water.

Carbonation is supposed to have enough power to build up the pressure that's necessary to stretch a pouch permanently?

What happened to burping exactly? You have a carbonated drink or a beer - you burp. That's it.

To each his own. Your milage may vary but there must be a reason that its not recommended. I'm not taking that chance.....Bob

Soda was my biggest vice pre-surgery. I used to love a ice cold Pepsi or Mountain Dew. I was a soda fiend. But after the surgery I knew I could never have it again....because the carbonation could destroy my stomach. So I treat soda like its invisible, its my coping mechanism and it works.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
