One week post surgery everything makes me feel sick!

Recommended Posts

I had gastric sleeve on June 6 and I am telling you what everything I eat gives me stomach cramping all the way down. i have horrible diarrhea too. This is for the birds so far! I guess my appetite is curbed a bit, but I miss good food a lot!

My intake includes Powerade, Water, Premier Protein Clear water, cottage cheese, mashed cauliflower, sugar free pudding and sugar free popsicles. I am so bored of it already and it is driving me nuts. Please someone else tell me they feel the same!!!

I am still in pain where my incisions are as well. Ugh!!

I do well with the broth and shakes. If I try just a lick of real food, especially with any sugar, I have severe diarrhea. I was told by my surgeon that I could take ibuprofen, it has really helped with any pain or soreness. She gave me the 600 strength.

Tylenol (acetaminophen) is the wiser choice for pain; ibuprofen can cause ulcers and should be avoided.

yes I was told strictly no Ibuprofen, Aleve etc. No NSAIDS ever again. This is what I am saying. The more I read the more things are all so different from different surgeons. It is all kind of a mess out there.

I agree, the surgeons have so many different rules. My surgeon only had me use the ibuprofen for the first few days. I have my follow up appointment today. Can’t wait to see what food she adds! I miss real food too, a lot! Lol.

I had pain for awhile too (I'm 9 weeks out now) it was bad and was on oxycontin for 2 weeks! But then poof! It was gone! I had staples and had a drain for 8 days so that sucked. It's great when you get "real" food, be careful and patient. I was on full liquids for 2 weeks, blended for 2 then soft foods and now I'm on regular stuff if I can tolerate it, but I got too crazy with blended too quick and got sick. Can you have Soups without lumps yet? That kind of kept me sane and Jello but sugar free gives me a stomach ache and some people diarrhea.

Ugh! A drain for 8 days would seriously be awful! I can have Soups and they are ok but everything causes cramping. I am just dealing with it and praying the days go by fast. Anyone out there who thinks surgery is the easy way out for losing weight is completely delusional!!!!

That is exactly what I say! This is not easy and I'm 8 weeks ahead of you. I'm keeping a journal of this year so I can look back if I mess up or just to look back and see how hard this was.

I have thought about a journal, but I am so sick of this already the last thing I want to do is right it all down! hahaha

Maybe its also because it is summer, but geez whenever I leave the house I think about all the things I can't enjoy and possibly won't ever be able to enjoy again.

A nice drink on my back deck.....grilling out steaks on the grill! Arghhh!!!!

But, I am hoping to have the energy to take long walks and travel more and all those things I haven't been able to do in the recent past. I have to remain focused. Its just not that easy when I am sipping down crappy broth : ) hee hee!

Ppl that are farther out enjoy these. I have made a few friends who still enjoy grilling out and eat. It is a much smaller portion and a healthy side dish.

I really hope that is the case! Thank you! Is it really true that we can NEVER have any alcohol EVER again?

The liquid only stage is very hard. I felt hunger a day after surgery and hunger did NOT go away. It was difficult to feel satiated during the liquid only period. BUT I want to encourage you that when you get to be able to drink dairy and Protein and blended up vegetables in your Soup you will feel A LOT better. My blood pressure got SO low during the liquid only stage that the doctor instructed me to use electrolyte tablets in my drinks. @Angi B you should get some so that your energy level can go up.

I started to drink soup with blended vegetables which I strained by day 9. It is likely the cottage cheese that is giving you the runs. Hold off of that for a few days and try the blended and strained soup instead.

Are you checking your incisions to make sure they do not have pus or red? You have to change the dressings daily. I allowed my incisions to air out a week after surgery so they were not kept covered and wet. It is so important that you make sure they are not getting infected

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
