Be careful you don’t want to get dehydrated. Some people get lactose intolerant after it I couldn’t do shakes after mine. Maybe call your clinic it could be dangerous if you get dehydrated.

After surgery I became lactose intolerant. Anytime I consumed dairy, it quickly led to an upset stomach and diarrhea. I cut out the dairy and the problem went away. A word of caution. Some Protein Shakes contain dairy. After around two months my lactose intolerance went away and I was back to normal.

I had the same issue. I cut it out for a few weeks and then was able to add it back in with some success. I can’t have too much (yogurt is right out but cottage cheese is okay). The reality is I just can’t eat that much anyway as opposed to my pre surgery dairy trigger and so I just don’t get the reaction. Unless of course I drink a Protein Shake /water that is whey based.

I had a swallow test day 1 post- op, and I think that contributed to my diarrhea. It’s easing up (day 3 post op) and I’m doing better keeping things in and keeping up with Water.

I had diarrhea starting on day 2, I believe and it lasted 2 or 3 days. I'm not sure what caused it, but it didn't last too long. Hopefully yours doesn't either.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
