Just Another Facet of Weight Loss?

Recommended Posts

My urologist has told me after my WLS (i am a future RnY) I will have a lessening of my problems. In addition to the UTIs we females are more likely to have because of the way we are structured, I have bladder spasms, nocturia and mild incontinence from not moving fast enough to beat the urge heading to the lovely porcelain throne.
Will any of these truly get better or is Dr Clemens just another of my "Go get your surgery Frustr8 Boosters.
I do adore him as a Doctor, well as much as one can adore someone whose firework consists of tweaking with my plumbing.😪💦

The extra fat in your abdomen puts pressure on your bladder, so as that is reduced, you will likely have fewer leakage episodes. Can't speak to the other issues.

Well, less weight is going to put less pressure on your bladder, so you *should* see some level of improvement from that aspect alone. UTIs, with less compressed skin around, you should have better air flow, so less sweat and bacterial build up, so UTIs should decrease as well. I would be curious how the required increased Water intake is going to affect your situation, are you presently consuming 64-128 oz of water a day?

Oh yes I am , average 84-96 and I have 3 kidneys, a little genetic bonus from my parents. Mamma had a horseshoe shaped on the right normal left, Daddy 2 distinct on the right, normal left, me the opposite Interesting sidelight When I had my idiopathic acute pancreatitis in May 2015 they took a Cat Scan of my abdomen. Came in and said Ummm you might have a tumor. I asked the location and when told, laughed and said" Silly that's just the top of my third kidney" See I also have 2 complete drainage systems over there. I'm sure if I wasn't as old as dirt some transplant team somewhere would be lusting after me, I just can hear them. "Oh you have so many, can we have a couple PLEASE?" Anyway one goes down to the bladder at the approved angle the other enters a cm or so lower at a slight angle. Yeah I'm just lovely inside. Hope my surgeon has a thick mask on so he or she doesn't drool at the odd layout. Maybe they'll do an open out of spite just so they can look around more. OMG I just remembered, I'm having my surgery in a teaching hospital, I might become a class project. Oopsey Daisy there! Really I would not mind an open although it's seldom done any more. I already have a right paramedian scar from when I had my gall bladder and appendix. removed 34 yes ago and it's 6 inches long, so variety be hanged. And from my BariBud BiddyNZ who did have an open, although you do have an abdominal wound to heal you have zero gas to expel.😛
So tomorrow I may just find out when this dog-and-pony show may be scheduled, I of course will post all updates.
This has been dragging on since August 2015 and even I don't believe the twists and turns my story has taken, but maybe, just maybe , it will all conclude soon.👍😛

Well, I had my appointment of appointments yesterday. Met more of. my bariatric entourage and I am encouraged I can do this. I met and talked with:
Nurse Practioner Valerie
Dietician Roy- yeah, young good- looking slender dude.
Exercise Physiologist-Kelly.
Each of them gave or refined on what I'm doing already, some hefty challenges in place there. But I think, oh I really think this tired old ME can do this.
They already gave me credit got,the changes I've made in my life, some merely need modified, others Whew but even for Me-do- a- ble.
I feel they "have my back" in a way that my,previous program did not. These people care n that reaffirms I'm on b the right path. for my life and future. Maybe everybody would not have the same conclusions but for my personal plans and future life it is perfect. And isn't that What,if should be? A Frustr8 type program for a Frstr8 type person and leading to a Frustr8 future. Don't see how I can ask or committ to something better for me.
Have to do a little more fine- tuning, I had to call and have both. Cardio and Pulmonary submit notes and observations so that my clearances are revalidated, since they were in another hospital system. My Cardio agreed to fax it immediately, my Pulmo was not in yesterday so left message with his medical assistant exactly what I needed. That saves me having to not do everything once again. Now when it comes to my EGD I do have further problems. They would like a little more details than the report my gastroenterologist sent hospital #1. Okay he folded up his practice in my town the beginning of April, he found he didn't like being in solo practice so " folded his tents and went I'm not sure where. Possibly Newark where he was in partnership previously, might even relocated to Columbus or Cleveland, all I have is a PO box # to submit to if I want to transfer my records to another gastroenterologist, I filed it away and until I find it I'm not even sure how long it was valid for. Is that his or is it just a temporary records system?
I wasn't able to talk one on one with Jessica my, are you ready for this title? Bariatric Nurse Facilitator/ Case Manager/ Patient- Program Liason.Makes her sound like a whole commitee in human form. Sort of like Arnold Swartzenegger, Supreme Court Chief Justice and decent President of the United States, Not Donald J Pumpkin-faced Trump he is a MODEL president, one of definitions of Model is a "small imitation of the REAL,thing".
Jessica was in a training seminar/ conference yesterday, she and I will have a phone consult either today or Tuesday/Wednesday due to Monday being celebrated as Memorial Day.
But my case is travelling down the Bariatric Train track🚝 kachug kachug. I could have sworn I booked for the bullet/express train instead of the local commuter one. This is the one that stops for every dog🐶pony🐎and goat 🐐 that ventures into the track. OMG a flock of chickens🐥just showed up, what next?
If I have to undergo another EGD, the third in less than 3 years because nobody can find Dr Mujtaba, that will slow down things a little, otherwise Jessica schedules me a PreSurgery consult with the surgeon and in 3 weeks or less, it's "cut, slash and poke" time when I get remodeled and reconditioned for the future. Hello Scalpel!🔪
And I Am Excited for the Future and What it Holds😝🌈

Hopefully your bladder issue may change.
I’m dry most times but during sneezing attack’s or coughing from a cold, I play it safe with thinnest pad.
(Being over 60 didnt help either)

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
