Randomly being faint/dizziness

Recommended Posts

Hi, I decided to make this thread to figure out why I am so light headed/dizzy today. I just got my gastric bypass/hernia surgery on May 15th of this month and I tried to go to Raley's today to get some Water and some Soup broth, I could barely make it through the aisles so I got one of those electric cart thingies and I couldn't really reach for much so a lady who worked there had to carry my stuff to the register and to my car. I was wondering how long does the dizziness/fainting last? Because I didn't really do much and I'm very tired.

If I were you I would either go see your doctor or urgent care. Most likely you’re dehydrated and need IV fluids. This happened to me although I wasn’t dizzy, just really fatigued. If you can, check your blood pressure and heart rate; if they’re both high, you’re dehydrated

I felt this way after my surgery and it ended up that I was severely dehydrated and needed to go to the ER for fluids. Please call your surgeons. They gave me a banana bag - vitamins/minerals in an IV Fluid bag. It looks yellow so they called it a banana bag.

I had that and it was internal bleeding from an ulcer at the connection site, which isn’t too uncommon. Get checked out!

You **REALLY** shouldn't be exerting yourself this close to your surgery... I was told that I couldn't lift over 10 lbs for a while, (like 6+ weeks). Do Not Push things! You need to recover! I know it sucks, but, your body needs to recover from a very invasive surgery. Take it easy and let someone else help you out.

I did the exact same thing. 2 weeks post op I went to the grocery store and had to stop in the middle of shopping and leave my cart. I just couldn't do it anymore. I hit a big brick wall. It does get easier. Your energy levels will return. Mine did around 6 weeks.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
