How do you know which foods work for you?

Recommended Posts

I'm nearly 6 weeks out and starting to add new foods to my diet. I had a moment of weakness and had key lime pie for the first time in months. Let me tell you I paid for it! It was so good but I couldn't handle the diarrhea that followed. I know it's a learning process but I'm curious to how long I have to wait before trying foods that upset my stomach again. Any thoughts?

Key Lime pie. Yep, You already know what foods cause dumping syndrome......Right?

All foods are trial and error to see if you can tolerate them. Keep on your plan to get your weight loss going.

Day-um I so love Key Lime Pie🍝 too. You know as I do, real Key Lime Pie is not green, that is a Northern Abomination. R K L P is pale yellowish but so Uber luscious. Of course nothing is worth the massive backdoor trots you will receive👎💩😕

It's just my experience but there is no rule. I couldn't eat chicken the first few years but I can now. eggs are a "sometimes" food--sometimes they stay down, sometimes they come up. You will get to know the feelings associated with foods that are not agreeing with you on a particular day. I find that if something isn't agreeing with me, if I put it aside and try it a few hours later sometimes it will be okay.

"Dumping" doesn't happen to me anymore and I think it's because I have included more fats/sugars into my diet. In the beginning it was almost all Protein and I think my gut bacteria adjusted to that. Adding something high in sugar and fat just caused everything to be ejected. That said, I try not to eat a lot of Desserts. My maintenance calorie intake is about 1400 cals and using up a third of them for a dessert just doesn't seem wise.

Total trial and error.

I feel quite lucky that I can pretty much handle any food I try. Only thing that upsets me is milk and cream. I think that is actually more mental anyway to be honest due to just having cream of Soups in the hospital after surgery. By my second cup of mushroom Soup I felt sick and I haven't been able to enjoy milk/cream ever since.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
