I realize this might be in the TMI category, but is there a difference between vomiting before and after surgery? I would think it wouldn't be as "violent" because there;s not as much tissue involved and perhaps it wouldn't hurt as much. I'd like your thoughts, experiences on this so I can be prepared as I start my journey~ I absolutely HATE throwing up, especially with abdominal surgery!

I am really phobic about vomiting. I get big meds with surgery to make sure it doesn’t happen after the op - and (touch wood) I haven’t vomited since. There had been gentle ‘regurgitation’ a couple of times when I ate too much or too fast - very non-violent, as you say.

Get the best anti nausea drugs during surgery, and get off the heavy pain meds asap after, to reduce the throwing up chances...

Best of luck...

Ask for an anti nausea patch before surgery. Life saver.

I haven’t vomited since surgery but as birdynz said- I’ve spit up or regurgitated “foamies” but nothing like vomiting

At my consent visit I was given several prescriptions, two for nausea, so I really hope they work! The physician's assistant also told me that they do put a patch behind my ear before the surgery.

I start my pre-op diet tomorrow and am excited and nervous at the same time. I had an abdominal hysterectomy 21 years ago and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Since this is laproscopic surgery, I think I'll do okay.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
