Grocery shopping- still trying to figure it out

Recommended Posts

I like to buy fresh foods mostly when I grocery shop but I always end up with more than I can eat. I bough 3 avocados (what was I thinking?) and 2 went bad before I got around to eating them. Same with cucumbers and zucchini. It’s such a mental thing I know. I’m still shopping like my stomach is pre-surgery size. I used to eat an entire zucchini in 1 meal - now it’s at least 3 meals.

I need to figure this out. I don’t want to have to go grocery store stopping all the time but I don’t want to waste money or food either.

Fun times! [emoji854]

I love individually-wrapped frozen fish! Each 4 oz. fillet is 2-3 meals, with no waste.

I’m still trying to cope with opening my fridge and saying “there’s nothing in here!” When really what is in there is enough for a week most of the time, but it looks so bare bones now post op 😟

Besides me, I've got a husband, 3 boys between 21 and 23 plus we feed one of their friends nearly every night, sometimes two. We have 2 refrigerators over-flowing! Mostly with food I can't eat!

Are you eating other items with the fish? I am sure I could eat 4oz of fish as my whole meal. My nutritionist is telling me I should be eating about 3/4 cup of all food in one sitting. I seriously feel like I have never had the surgery. I can eat anything, all raw veggies, raw spinach, etc. and I measure, weigh my foods. I am frustrated because I am doing everything according to the rules. So I am eating 4-6oz at every meal.

I used to grocery shop and get whatever I felt like buying that week. Since surgery on 3/16 I only shop with a list for the whole family. Using the list helps me know exactly how much I need and I am getting much better. It is a very different way of thinking for me.

Don't feel bad about the size - I'm sure it's much less that you were eating before. I'm apparently a slow healer, but my nutritionist is fine with the amounts I can eat. I had about 1-1.25 ounces of fish with 1 broccoli floret and I was done. I wish I could eat a bit more, it hardly seems worth dirtying the plate! I can't do any spice yet (and I LOVE spice) and am sure that raw veggies would make me miserable. I'm jealous!

I guess I have been a fast healer. I keep telling my husband I don't feel like I had the sleeve done. Makes me worry...

I am struggling with this too. Some deli meat I had bought went bad.

With all the weight you've lost, I don't think that's a worry ;)On the upside, since you can get in a little more "real" food, maybe you'll be less likely to experience Hair loss? That would be nice!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
