Sick after 2nd day

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I had my sleeve yesterday and was sent home today. I’ve noticed that when I got home I tried drinking premier clear Protein and each time I drink it, I feel nauseous and at times end up throwing up slimey stuff. I switched to Water, and had the same thing. Does anyone have any suggestions? I appreciate it.

Teenie tiny sips.

Pour a one ounce medicine cup. Drink it over 15 minutes...in 12 teenie little sips. Do this four times an hour...all day. It gets easier.

If you can't keep anything down drinking super slow like this...call your doctor first thing in the morning.

Sometimes warming your fluids to body temperature will help. Cold Fluid can cause a spasm.

Also, did they give you any zofran odt or that 3 day nausea patch that goes behind your ear? I had to do both and I finally felt kind of better by day 4. I'm almost day 8 now.

Hi, no, they gave me nausea meds liquid form. I am using that and the suggestion about the small doses to drink.

I had problems with the Protein Shakes. I switched to the unflavored powder and added it to broth and egg whites. Some days I met my Protein and others I didn't. It caused me great grief for the 1st two weeks. I just couldn't hold down the shakes. Finally, I'm at week 3 and I can have soft food with more protein options. Hang in there...it will get better.

Show someone a little kindness each day~Miss Tee

They told us only clear liquids for the first week or so, clear Premier Protein drinks, broth, Jello, but not the regular premier drinks at first. Maybe try them, I had to order mine. Hope this helps :D

I wasn't on "full" liquids until day 6.... When I was at your stage I was still having vegetable broth, popsicles, 100% diluted juice. Protein Shakes could be too heavy. I still can't drink plain Water to this day, and may never be able to.

Thanks everyone. I’m slowly working to drink 4 of the medicine size each hour. I’ve found I keep getting heartburn when drinking the clear Protein by Premier Protein. My doc gave me medicine for the heartburn, but it doesn’t seem to help. Any other suggestions for clear protein?

I'm surprised your doc didn't put you on a PPI from day one post op? That is like standard procedure for 3 months. Usually its Omeprozole and sadly, that does take a few days to take its full effect. I've been on it for awhile for a medication that gives me wicked heartburn and I definitely know if I miss doses. I also supplemented with mylanta liquid kind (you can ask your doc) for gas and heartburn. Prop up with extra pillows. Don't lay down after eating or drinking (my doc says a 1/2 hour). Artificial sweeteners like Crystal light, etc just do a number on me and bother my stomach and give me heartburn, if I NEED flavor I dilute fruit juice but I don't like juice much. sugar free in general upsets my stomach. I make Jello but do half regular, half sugar free mixed together, calories are few in a few tablespoons. Oh 30 minutes heartburn meds with no good or anything else. That's my "journey" but I can tolerate Water. I highly recommend getting a zofran script if you can't keep things down or are very nauseous, or the scolpomine patch as I was very nauseous

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
