Thinking about changing surgeons...

Recommended Posts

Uggghh, I found a lot of information about local support groups and a program with another doctor. With my current doctor all I have left is my psych eval and my 3rd appointment is Thursday before I can get cleared for surgery. I believe the other doctor has more experience under his belt and performs the proceedure at a more equipped facility...uggghh decisions

Have you asked your current Dr how many of these procedures they have done? What their rate of complications are? Does either perform surgery at a center of excellence?

The other surgeon may have more or different hoops to jump through. Another thing to think about is that many times Drs do not like to take patients from other Drs. All things to consider IMHO

The doctor office I spoke to today performs the surgery at a center of excellence my current doctor performs the surgery at a smaller hospital that is not considered a centernof excellence.

Trust your gut. I would switch they are centers of excellence for a reason they are kept to a higher standard. In my state the only hospitals that do bariatric surgeries are bce also there are such things as blue dot centers. Mine is one of those they are kept to an even higher standard and some insurances not only make you go to a cofe but blue dot.

I would make the switch. There is much to be said for a COE.Some insurance companies require that surgery be done at COE.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
