We fall somewhere in the middle. My DH likes to go places, but with us having our home here, and the place in TX, it seems like most of our travel revolves around keeping up with the property issues in TX, it is either time to shred the groves, or time to clean the pumps or time to sell cattle-----which bites big time!!! BUT some of the things, like the selling the cattle, will hopefully in the future allow us to travel more. We had a plan in place for him to retire in less than 10 years, then the market went to hell, and took a chunk of our retirement with it! So.....we will kind of play it by ear, and go from there, what else can ya do? We do not want to find ourselves in a predicament like my inlaws. My FIL was a self employeed consultant in the oilfield, who did relatively well for himself----and he saved for retirement. He just never ever expected inflation to hit like it did, nor did he think he would live this long-------so now he finds himself in a financial place he worries about money. So at 80+ years old, he is working again! Now some of it is financial, but he has a new lease on life being out among the oilfield people again. So even tho he has cleared the hurdle financially, he is unwilling to quit working again!

So while we vacation it is not on the scale I forsee when work is no longer involved!

My Dad watched several family men retire and die within months, never enjoying themselves -- and he took it to heart. He and my Mom do quite a bit. My Mom is not real active, she has severe fibromyalgia, and is stiff more often than not, but they go anyway! They just got back from a trip to Branson, and they stopped to see several groups of family for quick visits on the way back. They love Hawaii, and go pretty frequently. I told my Dad not to save his money for me to inherit, that if he doesn't get out there and blow that money, then when I get it I WILL!! LOL, he is more comfortable spending it, now knowing that we as adults have ourselves pretty well set as well.

Parents, guess they never quit worrying about us!

Susan, I see life simplifying for you a lot! Years ago, we moved into this house---which was in my family for the last 25 years or so, while we either looked for a new home, or decided on building. This house, I had bought from my parents when they were renting it out, then when we married, we rented it out. It is not a big house, just the standard 3 bedroom 1.5 bath. But when we moved back here from Denver, and sold there, it allowed us to pay this off. So living here was free and clear, so to say while we decided. The longer we were here, the more it become home. Now, we make some changes here, and we are discussing adding on another bedroom and bath-----with HUGE closets (my pet peeve with this home!)but only doing it and paying as we go. Having no mortgage is wonderful!

I think with losing that stress of the house costs, and you had to have been under stress as you realized your band was an issue, and now that too has been put behind you--and your weight will take care of itself now.....I see your stresses lessening in a HUGE way! Which will allow you to take a look at what you really want in your marriage, and whether you have that or not, without all the outside stresses you had before clouding the picture.

Have fun on your secret vacation Lu!!!

Oooh! With everyone who's been having employment troubles lately finally finding some light at the end of their tunnels, I think I can safely post this without being insensitive to other people's problems:

New job for me!!

After over 2 years at Argyle, I'm ready to move on and have secured a new 6 month contract based in Perth, so no more FlyIn/FlyOut after this swing! Argyle were offering more work after my current contract but they've been dithering about it for months, wouldn't put it in writing and were quibbling over my rates. I've been semi-looking for other work all year and got a reply last week to an application that I had put in a few months ago. I was on site at the time, so did a phone interview, which went well. They wanted to meet face-to-face, so I ended up doing the irl interview on the Tuesday morning before I flew to Broome in the afternoon (2/6/09). I got the word on over this weekend that I was successful and they want me to start before July.

This will be my last swing at Argyle - I'll miss the place a lot I think, but I'm really over FIFO and want to be home full time for the next 6 months at least, while I get this house thing sorted out (more delays there, ARGH!). I've now got to write to the people at Argyle that were offering me work but wouldn't commit in writing, to say "too late, you snooze, you lose!"

Anyways, as depressing as that all sounds, I am actually in quite a good mood. It is a relief to have finally worked things out with my husband, for us both to admit we need to basically start over both personally and financially and have a plan in place.

Not so depressing! Sounds like a good and feasable plan.

PJTP...I just got called to interview for one of the other jobs I applied for...Thursday at noon.

Great. They clearly want you out @ your current job.

I hate to even ask, but could there be something else at play here? Something more personal and ugly? :grouphug:

They're jealous of Ebony's blatant sexiness. And how could they not be? Have you seen her fb pics?

I'm VERY psyched about this. I don't believe in fate, per se, but I DO believe in divine intervention and things happening for a reason. Had I been even a minute sooner or a minute later, I wouldn't have bumped into him. The pay I quoted is about $10,000 more a year than the job I was there to interview for, his office is closer to my home (and I swear to God just a stone's throw away from my LB doctor's office), about a mile from where ColoradoChick works, and he knows me and what I can do -- which, in THIS economy, may be what makes or breaks people in getting jobs. I have to sell myself, but not to the degree of selling oneself to people you don't know.

Wear your lowest cut blouse. Couldn't hurt.

I get salmon at costco and throw it in ziplock bags with Bernsteins Restaurant Italian or cheese Fantastico Salad Dressing.

Then I saute it in a pan on the stove with some Water, butter, and all of the salad dressing.

It is delicious and my kids gobble it down too. Once word of caution - I cook it up the same day that I buy it, or the next day. Otherwise its starts smelling fishy which we all dislike.

If I have a lemon around, I squeeze it on it while its sauteing in the pan, and my daughter likes it squeezed on after its cooked.

Ingredients: Salmon, salad dressing,lemon, butter

Prep time: Two minutes to rinse the raw salmon and put it with the salad dressing in the morning.

10 minutes to cook it up in the pan, my normal cook time is three minutes per side for medium thick. If the middle is very thick (at Costco that happens), I slice off the thinner portions when done and let the thicker slices stay in an extra two minutes or so per side.

Once its cooked, we eat on it for three days.

Hells Yeah!!We all got trumped!

Hi folks, I'm back!! Got home from Broome at midday today, home just long enough to unpack my holiday suitcase and repack with work clothes, have one cup of coffee and then off back to the airport and back to Argyle.

What a great week - weather was perfect, the room was great, the sunsets were fabulous... did all the fun things - got my camel ride, got nekkid on the beach with my man, went fishing, went ocean kayaking, went up to Windjanna Gorge and saw more crocodiles

The classic sunset pic (not us, couple in front of us):

LOL - the nekkid part of the beach was further up, past a bunch of rocks and taking photos of the nekkid people is considered VERY bad manners! :) You'll just have to content yourself with thoughts of my nekkid boobies floating in the salt water... :grouphug: (I LOVE how boobies float!!)

Ummm, yea, that would be a little creepy. Of course the comment DID come from Plain! LOL!

If I remember right, g4e has an interview sometime Tuesday. Best wishes on your interview, g4e!!! Knock 'em dead!

Thanks, Lu. I'll feel better by the weekend. I'll probably cluster Migraine for a few days and then be fine. I just hate when this happens. Knocks me off my feet and yet I still have to function somehow. And thank GOD for spell check b/c I can't spell for shit right now! Fingers and brain aren't on the same page! I have payroll taxes to post this week too. Should be fun! DH should be home tomorrow for a couple of days, so he'll take over with DD so that will help.

Off to bed. 'Night all.

Thanks heart! It is at 2 today. It may not be the greatest job, but it is a job and they know about my health issues and I will need surgeries. That means a lot. So I am thankful for any of the prayers that I get to get this job. Especially knowing I really can't do the other job with my back the way it is.

Awesome job Mac.

Good morning everyone Hopefully I will be able to let you know about the job later. if I still have my phone package. I am still trying to find some help with that one. If not I will try to post asap. Good luck Ebony and Beth on your interviews! I pray you get these great jobs. Take care, enjoy your vacations, good luck on the moves and buying / selling homes! I think I covered everything. If I have missed anyone I am sorry.

Blessings

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

Good Luck this procedure is well worth it I am down to 249.6 lb please continue with the process..

      2. Selina333

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

      3. Doughgurl

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

    • LeighaTR

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
