Sounds perfect to me Babygrl. You know, 10-20 years ago, noone would have even thought to ask if it was wrong to have children doing chores, running errands or even "working."

Oh I am not against it lol. Hopefully my boss doesn't care either. But i haven't seen her in a few days since she comes and goes as she pleases. But that is a whole other story, ugh.

Is it completely wrong that I have my 8 year old here at work with me doing my filing? I mean she really likes it and I hate it so it is a win-win situation, right?

Absolutely right!

My now-18 year old used to come to my office all the time to help out during school vacations and sometimes during the summer as well - we had air-conditioning, ya know...

I don't think there's anything wrong with it! Heck, there used to be a young man that helped out with a summer lunch / recreation program I worked at during my teen years, and I used to pay him a few dollars a week out of my own pocket because he was so pleasant and hardworking. Years later, I ran into him again as a 17-year-old and he told me how much that experience had shaped him...nearly made me cry to think that his experience as a member of the 'working class' made him think twice about getting involved in something shady, but there it was. He grew up to be a hard-working, intelligent and very likeable young man - and I know I only played a small part in that, but I was happy to help him and happier still that he remembered me and thought the experience was positive.

I love to see a good work ethic among young people - I think it stands them well for the future!

I used "Lose It" prior to getting my Bodybugg and I loved it as well - didn't even think to recommend it!

Hope they have it for the Blackberry as well...if not, can you get to "The Daily Plate" (Calorie Counter, Diet Tracking, food Journal, Nutrition Facts at The Daily Plate) using your Blackberry?

I'm at home fighting with the remnants of a migraine...the worst is over and no vomiting this time (thanks be). Im at that state where the drugs (bless 'em) have left me feeling like there is a cement brick in my skull and the back of my neck, and my eyes still hurt if I open them fully, or look at a light, but I can function with lights off and move my head slowly...

I hope that you are feeling better now.

Happy hump day all! Four more days to mushies!!! I can't wait.

What are you going to eat first?

Hey, I could drink the butter cake through a straw. After all, right now, for me, isn't it supposed to be about healing, not losing? Besides, last time I got on the scale I was down 18.5 since my surgery.

18.5 POUNDS! That is so great!

Taps, wow, I feel for you. I hope you are able to chase the last of that awful Migraine away and have a good rest of the week.

Latest NSV...I was able to cut my insulin shot amount by 50% just this week! I have been taking one shot at night, and after my latest report to my doctor, and getting sub-100 readings in the morning for the past week, he agreed that I can cut the dosage. So far, it's been two days, and my morning numbers are still under 100. I think that's reason to Celebrate - but not with anything sugary!

Cutting that insulin is awesome!

Hey Babygrl,

For you, girlfriend...anything! I'll send it to ya via email. It's in a cookbook at home. It's a great basic recipe that can be tweaked endlessly to add different favorite flavors. I always double the recipe so it's extra high - fills up an entire tube (classic) cake pan, and there are never any leftovers!

If you double the recipe like I do, make sure you have a good, strong, mixer with extra capacity - the first time I did it, I overflowed the mixing bowl!:)

Messy, but made for fun clean-up! :tt2:

Can i have a copy too?

CC, glad to hear the news on Shane. Here's hoping and praying he makes it home this weekend!!

Morning all...whoo hoo - last night was the first one since last October in which the temperature was NOT below freezing....how exciting is that?!?!?

We tried to snow last night and yet we're supposed to be in the high 80's this weekend! Crazy weather!

UGH! Total bummer. I'm praying you are back to normal very soon!

Re: Butter cakes - I make a Sour Cream Pound Cake from scratch that is an absolute killer! It's heavy, dense and has the most wonderful crispy crust on it...my husband eats slices of it with meat like it was sandwich bread. He always requests cupcake-size ones that he calls "Grandma's Specials" and eats them by the dozen when I make them, which isn't often! I made one with Hershey's chocolate Syrup in the batter as a fundraiser for my church's Chocolate Auction, and it fetched the highest price EVER for a cake at the auction...the winner almost didn't make it out of the church with it - people were still trying to buy it as she went out the door!

Yummmmmm!!

Fantastic! WTG!!!

btw - is there anything paula dean makes that doesn't include a stick of butta'?

Not that I've seen!!

Not wrong at all. Keeps her busy and helps you in the process! I always hated filing!

ditto to what donna says.

if my dogs had posable thumbs - they'd have laundry to do.

If ya ever figure this one out, let me know!

That's cool! You just never know how you touch people. It's neat that you saw him later and he could tell you how he was doing and what you meant to him.

Thanks for the well wishes! It sure was scary! I'm doing okay now. Really sore but that's to be expected I guess. Sooooo glad I was able to get to him Monday night. I couldn't imagine going another day or 2 doing what I was doing!

Beth, I took a look at that link you posted about the 19yr old who's having a lot of the same problems that I had. I can't imagine going as long as she has. I'll have to find it again to see if she's updated at all. Drive-time, phooey!, get thee to the surgeon NOW!!!! I pray she and her band are okay but I don't know after this long. Sounds bad.

I'm thankful I'm still not much interested in food. Still pretty swollen, I'd imagine. With DH and DD they're eating regular food and I could care less right now! I'm even fixing some of it for them! Speaking of which, I need to go puree some bean Soup for lunch. It's been awhile and I should go eat.

Have a great day!!

Awesome job Beth!!!

WTF can't Uncle Sam just get it right when he takes money from my paycheck. Because, seriously, looking at this mess makes me want to cry. I am not even finished yet and already poorer than I was this afternoon. F*&^*&ck the state of Michigan. I swear I had better not leave the house tonight because if I see one person with 13 kids in tow paying for groceries with a bridge card and wearing designer clothes I am going to flip out. But then at least my tax dollars would be going to pay for my own care at the county jail.

Oh and happy birthday OHJuli!!!!!

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
