Band - what’s the skinny?

Recommended Posts

I’ve just been for my consultation (with the NHS, in the UK) and been told they no longer do bands because they don’t work in terms of weight loss and almost inevitably end in complications which require the removal of the band. A cynical part of me wonders if this is actually about cost, given the frequency of follow up appointments for filling and defilling

You’re all experts, what are your experiences and thoughts please?

The research is pretty clear that the lap band just doesn't work. There is a good number of people that undergo a revision surgery because the lap band did not work. Do yourself a favor and don't go that route. You don't want to have to undergo two major surgeries: go with a VSG, RNY, or even the DS.

I had lapband surgery about 10 yrs ago and I love my band.its true now I am having a little problem. But it was due to me not chewing my food well because I had become complacent when eating. I did have a hernia in my esophogus but it was fixed. I love my band and the thought of losing it scares me. It worked great for me. I went from 212 lbs and went down to 118 lbs my normal weight. I recently went to 126 but it will go down. I would do it all over again if I had the chance. The fills are important and the follow up care too . I feel the band works if you work with it. It's a tool not a cure. I love my band but you must choose what's best for you.

Thank you for this - it’s very heartening.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
