Craving a soft pretzel right now

Recommended Posts

For some messed up reason I am craving a Philly Pretzel Factory soft pretzel. Maybe I am just bored because I know I am not hungry and I am well hydrated. GRRRRRRR! Must. Resist. Temptation.

I get real bad cravings too but I try to find a healthy substitute eg. Craving baked camembert - make a toastie with 1oz low fat cheese and using cauliflower instead of bread. If I fancy chocolate I have one square of 90% chocolate instead of the tonne of crap quality stuff I used to have. Maybe have low fat cream cheese with some celery? Xx

I still avoid stores with a bakery in the morning because the smell of fresh bread freaks me out.

i had such an addiction to bread it was unreal. i just avoid the bakery's now and skip the bread cause that is a place i never want to go again.

the sight of sweets and breads doesn't have the same effect once the smell is gone.

i can cruise thru the bakery area on my way to something else without a second look but oh lordly let me smell that bread baking and i have a very unhealthy reaction.

just one of those things.

It's after 7:00PM here and I've set 7:00PM as the cut off for food intake. I had a pre-surgery bad habit of eating late. I am leaving that one in the dust.

Good on you @Mattymatt x

Thanks! I'll admit to being motivated by weight loss results. I am so over being above 300 pounds. It's just killing me slowly.

I’ve had some cravings here and there as well, but it is admittedly much easier to ignore them when actively seeing good results in the weight loss department.

I guess the real struggle will be saying no to those old favorites once progress slows or a long stall comes along. Praying for the strength when my time comes.

Possibly unconventional but works for me: when I'm craving something from a specific junk food place, such as McDonald's or pizza or whatever, I just go look at their menu online and look at the nutrition stats for whatever I am in the mood to order, and most of the time the combination of looking at the pic/stats is enough to get me past my craving.

Well good for you for resisting!

I struggled last night. Gah. The bit*h! My craving was for taco meat + some borracho Beans in the fridge spooned cold onto tortillas that Mr. F. brought home with tortilla Soup (long gone). I froze the chips. And they have haunted me since! I'm thinking that the chips may have to be thrown out (hate to waste food) cuz I'm afraid their attraction is too powerful for me.

I barely managed to get through it because it was so late and didn't want to eat--by Water loading. Then I drank a cup of hot black decaff and put myself to bed in a snit.

If it's during eating time, then I would replace the craving with water loading and/or a hard boiled egg.

Every time I have a glass of wine I’m instantly thinking of mozzerella sticks or egg rolls. 😭 but I just whine about it for a minute and remember I’m only 30lbs away from goal. And if I open the mozzerella stick door (even the Pinterest healthy ones) it will never shut again and we can’t have that!

Now that is one of the best ideas I've heard in a while!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
