Protein Shake recommendations, Surgery Date 5/3/18

Recommended Posts

I finally got my surgery date, 3 weeks from tomorrow. Today I was given the shrink the liver diet that recommends I buy pre-made shakes. Glucerna, Boost Glucose Control, Ensure High Protein, Unjury or Orgain. I've never had any of these but need to buy something. Any recommendations for which one might taste better than another? Any other suggestions you have for me I'd greatly appreciate. I'm alone in this and can use all the support I can get. I should say I have a husband who is willing to help me after surgery for a few days but he knows nothing about any of this and really has no interest in learning or discussing. So I'm alone in all my decisions. Thanks!

I’ve tried them all. Spent way too much money and landed on JBN chocolate. Not overly sweet and I mix it with unsweetened almond milk

I'd buy several kinds, just the 4-packs. They are all quite sweet and you may find it easier to mix it up. Plus, your taste may change after surgery, so don't stockpile, even the ones you like.

That being said, I liked the Premier Protein, chocolate or banana flavors.

Good luck, I wish you much success!

Thank you so much everyone! Has anyone tried Unjury shakes? They're being recommended by weight loss center but I've never heard of them.

I used premier shakes for the pre-op liquid diet. I am 6 days post op and unable to drink them. They are too thick and cause cramping. This morning I tried a sample of Unjury (chocolate) with almond milk and I can swallow it with no pain. I think maybe because it’s formulated for bariatric diets. It tasted good too. Not chalky at all.

I also found Isopure Zero Carb ready to drink. It looks like flavored water but has 40 grams of Protein. Anyone tried this? I really want to set myself up for success, especially after I get home. Thanks!

I thought that one was dreadful. The taste wasn't horrible, but it left a weird film in my mouth.

I tried to give away 3 bottles that I had left over at a support group meeting - no takers!

I drank isogenix shakes. They have pretty good flavors and are kind of a marshmellowy consistency once mixed up so are really filling. I didn’t tell anyone at work about my surgery (other than my boss) and as isogenix is a very well known diet, I had the perfect cover!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
