Hi Baripals!:)

So I originally had VSG surgery in October 2012. At 253 lbs. the morning of weight in, I was pre-diabetic and had PCOS among other things. Fast forward almost 6 years, my doctor & I have made the decision to have a revision. I had initially lost about 95 lbs. and kept it off for 4 years until I had my son July of 2016. Even after I had him, I had only gained about 20 lbs. during pregnancy. I totally went off the "deep end" and started to go back to old habits like eating and drinking at the same time, not making healthy food choices, not chewing enough, eating/drinking ravenously, drinking carbonated beverages. etc. I was also switched on anti-depressants during my pregnancy and then switched again and then AGAIN! The previous anti-depressants had weight gain as a side effect on top of my poor eating habits. Doc. requested blood work and an upper GI test and confirmed I had dilated my pouch.

I honestly feel like a failure but I know what I have to do. My husband will be going in to have VSG sometime this year too so I know I have to be strong for both of us. I don't want him to end up like I did.

Has anyone else had sleeve revision. Any tips for this struggling mom?

I hope things go well for you. I have said all along I swear my sleeve is too big. I am down 100 pounds in 7 months, but have not lost any weight in about 4 weeks.

Thank you Walter! Congrats on all your weight loss success!

You probably hit a plateau. If you are doing everything you are supposed to, you should be just fine! What makes you think your sleeve would be too big? If you suspect it would be stretched, your doctor would probably request the upper GI to take a look. They make your drink that barium shake and get a look as you are on the table. That is what they did with me. Hoping that is not the case.

My wife and I were sleeved together, two months apart to be exact. I am able to take in more than her. Granted I am about 6 inches taller than her and male. I just fear my surgeon didn’t remove enough stomach. It could all be in my head.

Oh wow! I'm not sure which one of us will be first with surgery. We are both required to attend classes for 3 months beforehand.

To make it interesting, we have our son who will be 2 years old in July. He has plenty of energy being a toddler so I want to be able to help with him (lifting/carrying him) while my husband is down and out and visa versa. I kind of know what to expect since this will be my second time having surgery. I am thinking my husband should go first although I'm sure it doesn't matter just as long as we both have enough healing time. I have a desk job where as my husband is hard laborer and will need close to 3 weeks rest post op.

How did you help each other during your healing time? Was it difficult/easy?

I also wanted to add that most likely it is all in your head. You will drive yourself nuts trying to compare yourself to someone else when we are all different! I'm sure you both are doing wonderful! Keep it up man! Learn from me....lol since I'm here all over again!

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
