Weirdest coments you've gotten since WLS

Recommended Posts

"You look great, but is it rude to ask...do you have cancer or something?" ---neighborhood teen boy I often encounter while riding my bike. LOL

"Nope. I had weight loss surgery."

"Oh! That's cool. Glad you're not sick."

Tealael--' you could have had a whole stable of boy friends, had you really wanted that! You didn't just crawl out of an ugly cage after all! And who wants to become a stripper ? their professional lifetime isn't that long. Girlfriend, you got better things to do with your time[emoji13]

I was so shocked at the statements I just walked away. People really don't think before they speak...

Some guy said, "You are really skinny. Do you even eat at all?"

Another person said I looked like I was 90 lbs, not 126. Lol

I don't get offended. I laugh about this and find it amusing.

Somebody asked my current weight. At this point of life I have little shame so,i went ahead and told them. Person took another look at me and said "You must have heavy bones!" Don't think so, I just came with the standard package.

The other day my girl friends and I went to a bar/restaurant and they ordered drinks upon entering. I said, "nothing for me". Later she brought us our menus and their drinks. The waitress didn't say anything then, but eventually said "So why aren't we drinking anything? Why aren't you hydrating? Fluids are friends!" I told her I don't eat and drink at the same time. It seemed to suffice her curiosity. But it made me think that there has to be some weird stuff people have heard!

I stopped the No liquids Near Me At Mealtimes pretty soon after recovering from surgery. One day I was eating a bite of scrambled egg and nearly choked to death. At this point it is instinctive for me not to throw back gulps of Water when I eat, but I need some water nearby in case my mouth is dry yet full of food that is hard to get down. Remember that Soup is always allowed. So putting a teaspoon or tablespoon of water in your mouth while eating a dry solid will not kill you; it might help you prevent solid bit aspiration. It is ok to make a dry food into a soup in the mouth to help chew. I rarely do that but I like the water near enough so thst I cold if I need to.

I’ve had the “did you mean to lose this much weight?” Thing too. Right, thanks, I look like I have cancer. Sheesh. At least when we were fat no one asked us, so, did you mean to get this fat, or are you on steroid meds? Or just really bloated?

That was so mean of her. I would have told her that I am happy that I have a big nose because I can't hurt anybody with it. Someone like this person has an ugly heart and that makes her hurt others with mean comments like that. I hope you lose the weight that you set to lose. It is your body and your choice. Congratulations that you chose to love yourself and have WLS.

Actually, in my program this is a BIG "No-No". Drinking while eating will allow you to be able to eat more per sitting and can eventually cause your stoma to stretch. I've adjusted just fine without liquids while eating. I don't miss it at all. I actually think food tastes better.

And actually if you have problem swallowing without liquid, you should probably take smaller bites and eat slower.

While you are all correct and I do stay away from drinking 30 mins before and after eating, I only said that since we are allowed to eat Soup, it is ok if during a meal you mix in your mouth if necessary a teaspoon of Water in. Like if you feel you will choke or something. If one of your bites at an entire meal is liquidy, especially many months after surgery, it’s ok to think of that bite as if you had taken one mouthful of soup. That’s all I meant. I don’t drink like I used to during a meal.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
