4/17/18 is my day! Anyone else having surgery in April? How’s your Pre-op diet going?

Recommended Posts

Today is day 13 of my pre op diet, Tuesday is surgery day! The pre op has been rough I'm not a fan of the protien shakes so i split them into 4 oz randomly through the day. I've lost 12 lbs so far. Good luck!! You've got this!

Thanks Star! You started early. Today so far I’ve had Water and a oíkos zero sugar yogurt. It alone has 15 grams of Protein. lunch will be Premier Protein shake. They’re not too bad.

Thank you! I had to do 14 days liquid only diet. Terrible but i see the light lol

Yes I completely feel the same way. I have to daughters and I have to cook for them of course all the time right. That’s kind of messing with me a little. But my oldest keeps reminding me I can’t have no food.

Today is much better that yesterday. I couldn’t keep anything down. But I’m taking gas-x chewable, nausea med, pain med, protonix, and a stool softener. Once I was able to pass gas this morning I began to feel much better. I can’t drink much but I’m won’t force it. It’s still 1 oz or 2 every hour or so for me. Just happy it’s staying down today.

After surgery you won't be hungry much. As soon as you eat something, you'll be full. I broke down one day, and have a pack of Lance crackers, that was it, had to skip my meal.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
