Question about diet for both surgeries

Recommended Posts

I had RNY 6 months ago. At 3 months, I was drinking a small Protein Shake (6oz was all I could handle) in the morning, having a scrambled egg or tuna for lunch, an early dinner of chicken in any kind of sauce with a small amount of vegetable and another small Protein shake or 1/2 c. of greek yogurt later in the evening. By this time it was easier to get in 65 oz of Water.

There will be no remarkable differences between sleeve and bypass. Just personal preferences. Advice from dozens of different doctors who have absolutely no consensus. LOL:)

Bypass folks will have a harder time with refined sugar...but both camps should avoid refined sugar.

At 3 months, I ate 1000-1200 calories per day.

I got 60+ grams of Protein per day.

Kept my meats low fat, use olive oil, etc.

My carbs were not refined, but I do eat carbs. Whole grain breads, Beans, protein Pasta.

I follow the mayo Clinic diet....which is kinda like the Mediterranean Diet. Lots of whole grains, veggies, fruits, beans, nuts, fish. Some meat.

1200 calories looks like whatever you want it to look like.

Many people will eat significantly lower calorie amounts. My group does not advise to do this based on long term studies of weight regain. We are pushed to get to 1000-1200 calories as soon as possible...the idea being a strong metabolic reset. (this is all emerging information and emerging theory....so time will tell)

Thanks.

Did you have any complications? And how have you been feeling overall?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
