Endoscopy- Waived or not?

I have to have an endoscopy but I have no idea why. What are they going to be looking for? Why do some have to have it but others don't? I guess they put you to sleep so you won't gag on the camera. I am going to ask my doctor why she wants me to have one.

They look for Barrett's Esophagus, ulcers, hernias, etc I suppose. I am still waiting to see if I need one. They make you pretty out of it for the procedure, but around my part its apparently a LONG process to get an appointment and my PCP doesn't think my insurance will pay for it since I have 0 symptoms, and no reflux/heartburn problems.

But my insurance is also pretty lax so I am sure they can be talked around if needed.

Maybe if they feel that your surgeon mandates it , insurance would be more likely to cover it than if it seemed elective or done on a whim. Who truly knows what motivates insurance companies than greed or keeping their budget low? Like many other things its charge high, distribute low. Ah, the American retail mantra.[emoji44]

Yeah but once you reach a certain age(50 in most places, 40 or earlier with a family history) doctors try to sell you on colonoscopy like an insurance agent on speed who hasn't made his monthly quota. And they get so bent out shape they nearly can kiss their toes if you say "Thanks but No Thanks!". Been there, done that and I'm safe from their tender mercies until the Autumn of 2022, barring any colonic deterioration!

The doctors are actually recommending it because many people start having signs at age 40. Insurance recommends 50 to save them money. My husband had stage 3 cancer and ended up with a permanent colostomy at age 50. Okay, I'm off my soap box. Colonoscopies save lives.

Well if you noticed, my son just had one at 37, luckily all he had was internal hemmoroids, no sign of the diverticulosis that has run on my side of the family for 4 generations. And yes colon cancer can kill, as I said before Jay Monahan, Katie Couric's husband died at 41-42. Which you notice is even earlier than the 50 year mandate. I'm glad your hubby was one of the survivors. I enjoyed watching my own colonoscopy back in 2012, our gastroenterologist put my son to sleep for his. I warned Dr Mujataba[emoji40] if he's still my doctor in 2022 I will be awake and watching. My last one, the worst part was laying on my side, the rest of it, piece of cake! People always act scared of them, they are more inconvenient, than painful.[emoji14]

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
