Lap-Band vs Gasteric Balloon

Recommended Posts

I get that everyone has different experiences and opinions about being in sales and drinking. But I can assure you at my company, and I'm sure others, going dry would have a negative career impact. Again, I wouldn't lose my job, or take a cut in pay, but it would still have consequences.

I would hate to have a job where drinking decided how well I worked in the company. I want my success by how hard I work. Not how much I drink or eat. After a wls of any kind going to dinners with clients will be rough, but once again it's not about what we put in our mouth but what comes out our mouth. The sole purpose of wls is learning healthier habits. Another thing surgeons are hard on us not drinking our calories. No one said a drink here and there was the end of the world, but keeping up with the guys is unhealthy behavior and a lot of liquid calories.

I have had the lap band for about 12 years with no fill and no problem. I gained about 30 pounds when I retired, which I am slowly getting back off. I honestly love the band because it is a constant reminder if I eat too much or too fast, I get stuck and that is the reminder I need to keep on track. I originally lost 90 pounds and kept it off for 8 years but I was always a stress eater and am trying to get back to my original eating habits.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
