If you don't want to travel as far as Texas, Mark Pleatman in Michigan has a $11,500 self-pay deal worked out with the hospital. That covers his surgical fee, the hospital fee, anesthesia, overnight in the hospital (or longer if needed for some reason), pre-op testing, and two years (if I remember right!) of aftercare. He's done me, my son, and my brother. His office gal Cari is excellent and they do a TON of out of state patients, so they can help with suggesting accommodations as well. :)

Hi Stacy 160.

Thank you SO MUCH! I called Pleatman’s office, and the patient coordinator, Kerry, was great. She was on the phone with me for an hour discussing everything about surgery and diet. She said Dr.Pleatman would call me on friday. He didn’t, so I hope to speak with him next week. I’m aiming for a late March surgery...in time for my 50th.

I cant thank you enough for sharing his name. $11,200, I can do. $29k was unthinkable.

Thanks, KatKatLady. I had pretty much given up on it, so I'm pretty elated right now.

I don't want to smash your hopes, but in my area no Dr's do the hernia option. Well, they fix it, but no one charges part insurance, part cash. I wish they did, but they acted like I was speaking another language. But the good news is once you get a hernia verified, you can still shop around, use insurance and get the sleeve for a greatly reduced price. I tried to go this option, but it got too frustrating for me. I had cash, so I just went that route. I
Keep us posted how it goes!

I’m in NJ. How long will you stay in MI post-surgery, if you know yet? Are you finding a local doctor? I guess a 2 hour drive isn’t that bad.

Cari said I could go straight home from the hospital. I was excited to hear that!

YAY girls!! I'll let you know he's in an older building, not a fancy office, but that's because he'd rather keep his costs down....he cares more about his patients than having a flashy image. It's a great practice...I worked with Cari a little years ago, and I would LOVE to work there!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
