Anyone ever had this? Could it be ANOTHER stricture after RNY

Recommended Posts

Guys, help! I'm a paranoid hyper-anxious person, so I'm not sure whether I am obsessing unnecessarily. So, I'm 8 months post op and down 115 lbs. After my stricture dilation 2 months post op I've had very little discomfort with eating or drinking. I could *almost* chug like normal and it was nice to get my Water in so easily...I could even use straws...

But...

This past week I've been feeling very subtle pain off and on in my upper left abdomen. It's dull/crampy and more annoying that painful. Then suddenly (like, last two days) I've felt a lot of restriction in my pouch... Small drinks of water cause lots of pressure and give me the feeling of needing to burp urgently, and small bites of food do the same (unless they're pudding texture).

What could this be? Anyone had this before? Is my stricture back? Or maybe my nerves have healed and I can simply feel things that I could not feel before?

P. S. I've been eating lots of spicy foods with no consequences, and I don't do NSAIDS, no smoking, occasional glass of wine (1 every month or two?), no sodas, 1 or 2 cups of coffee per day

I have heard that if you've had a stricture you are more likely to get another one. It can't hurt to let your surgeon know. I am an anxious person, too, and I still trust my instincts. No pun intended but go with "your gut feelings! "

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
