Freeeezing..what does it mean?

Wow that's a side effect that I didn't know to expect, but I must say I'm looking forward to it. I work in an area with extreme high temperatures and it makes me utterly miserable, so have been sort of thinking maybe the heat wouldn't bother me as much after losing the weight, but it had never occurred to me that it might go all the way in the other direction. That would certainly make my housemates happy as I've been known to run the airconditioner even in winter, when they want the gas heater on!

My DH & I are still battling over the thermostat. ONLY now I'm the one turning it up hotter and he keeps turning it colder. UHGHH!!!:faint::biggrin1:

Me too!! We used to be the opposite.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

I had my surgery in Aug and the weather turned chilly here at the end of Oct. I've been uncharacteristically and unbearably cold ever since!! I've even thought about getting some of those gloves with no fingers for work. - lol! (on the PC all day) I have a little space heater under my desk for my legs and feet. ($20 from Walmart)

Holy Cow!!! :omg:I am right there with everyone else, FREEZING... I have been wearing a sweater at work all day long and turn on my heater under my desk almost every day. This has never been me, I'm always hot..I live in extreme southeast GA and it hasn't even been 32 degrees yet. :eekI was in New Orleans at my BFF's for Thanksgiving & thought I would freeze to death. Guess I need to move further south for the winter!

I am so glad to see this post and know that me freezing to death the last few weeks is normal.....LOL

I have always been the hot one......fan on in the winter in the bedroom and so on....DH can barely handle that.

Now I am the one with two blankets socks and pajama pants and sweatshirt and am still cold......

Glad this is a side effect of this that is normal..........:notagree

Hasn't caused me any less sleep though....I am sleeping fine!

I too am much colder than ever!!! I just read in The Readers Digest that sometimes low carb diets can cause you to feel cold!!!! That may be the answer but whatever it is.....cold is better than carrying all that weight around!

So funny~ I am cold now too. I have lost 70 pounds, but I'm only half way to goal, so I was wondering what it could be. The low calorie intake does make sense, because I still have plenty of insulation. It is uncomfortable, but so much better than breaking out in a sweat like I used to.

My DH loves this side effect. I have never been one to cuddle at night because I am too hot, not I have to cuddle up with him just to stay warm at night. We also have a waterbed and have always fought over the heat setting (him 85-90, me 75 or lower) now it is set at 90 and he is one happy camper.

I'm glad you posted this. I mentioned that I was freezing on another thread and no one in my group responded. I've been SO COLD! And I live in Southern California! I'm glad I don't live anywhere cooler, I would never leave the house!! Brrrrrrrrr.............

Ok - any of you that have reached goal ...

Does it go away? Will we eventually get warm again?

I have an icycle for a nose!!! My hands are cold WITH gloves on in the car and the heater going. And, I'm in TX - it's just not that cold here!

I love all you "oldies" (and I mean that term in the most endearing way!). You truly give us so much guidance and thank you for sharing your experiences!!!!!!!!!

I am so glad I found this thread! My husband wants me to go to the doctor and find out why I'm cold all the time. He said "Hon, its just not normal for you to be cold all the time" :P I said yeah but I do get an occasional hot flash too! LOL But I'm the same as all of you, I wear slipper boots (thick soles) all the time and always have a sweater or hoodie on. I also have a space heater at work under my desk.

Does it get better? I'm about 20 lbs to goal and I don't think so.

I know this won't be very encouraging for people who want that cold feeling to go away, but I live in the Caribbean and I frequently feel chilled nowadays................

At least I am saving $$$$ on the electric bills, which are absolutely out of control around here............

DITTO!!! I was always the hot one. I kept the house on 68 just to be comfortable. I was banded two weeks ago and now I'm FREEZING. there were a couple nights that even under flannel sheets and TWO blankets I shivered for about an hour before I warmed up enough to sleep. My teeth were chattering. I thought I had a fever, but I didn't. It's definatley weird. I now keep the thermostat on 73 - 75 and am comfortable, but still have cool hands and feet.

i think this is totally coincidental, but i have always had a low body temperature too. when i am freezing like that, and i check my temp (because i will get chills and swear i have a fever), my temperature will usually be around 95. I rarely ever have a temp around 98. if i do i have fever.

i usually stay between 96 and 97, but when i'm having really bad cold spells it will be 95. i tend to also have the spells when a Migraine is coming on, so it may be hormonal.

i will "sweat it out" per say. i will freeze, turn my thermostat up to 75, wrap up in 5 blankets (literally), and lay on my leather sofa (which holds the heat), and within 3 hours i usually sweat it out. I used to never sweat it out, i only started doing this after surgery. so, for me, it is truly like i have a fever, but i don't. chills, teeth chattering, etc.

...now i don't do that everyday, but i am always cold. especially at work. i have windows in my office and i wish i didn't. :) i hate getting cold because it makes me ache.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
