Generally when you went into the hospital for surgery, they routinely give you antibiotics to kill any germs that might try and infect your wound. The problem is that antibiotics not only kill the bad bacteria but also the good bacteria you have in you gut. Therefore after surgery it is important to reestablish these colonies of good gut bacteria. That is where probiotics come in. That is why it is important to take some probiotics for a few days after you are off the antibiotics.

I'm late to the party, just starting at three month out and curious about how they affect sleevers when taken daily. Also wondering the type sleevers are using.

If you are 3 months out, it is likely you have already restored these colonies because some foods such as yogurt contain natural Probiotics. https://www.livestrong.com/article/281319-yogurt-brands-containing-probiotics/

Probably but Im interested in the type sleevers are using and frequency.

Do you take Probiotics? Which type & how often?

I was just sleeved this week, so I'm not currently taking any probiotics, I don't feel up to swallowing pills. But I usually take Hyperbiotics PRO-15 Probiotics (https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JEKYNZA/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1). I chose this one because of the high number of strains and CFU count, and the fact they are built to make it into your intestines, where they belong, instead of dying in your stomach acid.

My friend and I started taking them this summer to prepare our tummies for a trip to SE Asia and street food. No way to tell if they worked or not but neither my friend or I got ill after 2 weeks of eating pretty indiscriminately. I've continued to take them since, I figure they can't hurt. I honestly don't feel any different if I'm taking them or not.

Garden of Life for women. Once daily. Also read about a study done of wls’ers and probiotics. If I remember correctly??? about 70% (or more) achieve their weight loss goals better or further than those who don’t take any. I’ll need to find it though. Besides, they’re great for your gut!

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
