I need some guidance.

Hi everyone! Ok, I have a problem and I wanted to see what you guys thought. I got banded at the end of Sept 06, starting at 252 lbs. It is now the end of Oct 07 and I have only lost 55 lbs. I got my first fill in Nov of 06. I was so busy between school, work, and moving that I got my second fill in the end of Aug, just a few months ago. Since then, I have lost only 2 lbs. I'm so discouraged. I know I should have gotten my fills when I plateaued (um, I don't know, like a year ago!) but I was so busy. I only stay full for about 3 hours. I was a vegetarian for 5 years, and I know Protein is a huge factor in losing weight. I just started eating lean cuts of chicken and turkey to help me but nothing is working. I work out for at least an hour each day, I stick to my diet and nothing helps. I feel like I wasted my first (and most important year). I guess my question is- should I get another fill? My band is at 2cc's. What do you think? Thank you,

-Royce ;)

I would examine my diet and exercise, and it it is as good as it can be, I would go in for another fill.

The first year was not wasted. The beauty of the band is, we can start over at any point.

Congrats on the 55lbs lost!

You've lost 55 pounds, that is definitely not a waste! Just think, without the band you could have GAINED 55 pounds this year! Just start over following the rules I'm sure you already know and if you need a fill take time for yourself and get one no matter how busy your life is! You'll love yourself for it.

It really is think about how hard it would have been before to lose that in a year. Go to your doctor and get a fill.

I would look at how many calories you are eating in a day. It may be that you are not eating ENOUGH calories. Also, make sure you are eating lots of veggies, fruits, and lean meat. Try eating 5-6 small meals through the day every 3 hours. Lots of Water. This will speed up your metabolism. Keep up the exercise (maybe increase a bit). If you still aren't losing, get a fill.

I have only had 2 fills. I have zero restriction, but I eat just as I have suggested to you. I exercise 2 hours 6 days a week and drink around a gallon of Water a day. I am losing 2 lbs a week steadily. Good luck!

I'd bet the farm on you needing a fill. Finding the right fill level is the key to making the band work (whether too much or too little fill).

Other than being busy (as we all are), do you think there may be other reasons why you waited a year to get a fill? There may be issues there that you want to think about and see if they're getting in the way of your future success.

And 55 lbs is great. Congratulations!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
