So my coordinator sent out my file for the insurance approval and throughout this entire process I was absolutely sure I wanted the Bypass but now that it’s become real and surgery is in the next month or so, I’m not so confident in my decision. My surgeon suggested RNY before I had any testing done to see if I had any health conditions and I took his recommendation in without question. After testing the conditions were PCOS and I’m Pre-Diabetic. I’ve only met one person with RNY and later met plenty of Sleevers that we’re around my age, my size and had the same conditions. I just feel like I made a very quick decision because I focused more on what time friend had and how he lost the weight (didn’t meet the sleeve friends yet)... I kept a closed mind on VSG. I’m not even sure if I can change the procedure after insurance approves it and I havent spoke to my surgeon since May and me sure he’ll suggest RNY again. I trust my surgeon, I just don’t feel comfortable with the RNY procedure anymore. Help please!!

Well I have always heard they steer you towards RnY if you've had or are prone to develop diabetes. That said, you need to have a little chat with the surgeon, especially if you are younger. I am a future RnYer but my co morbid probably differ. I have sleep apnea, Gerd, severe arthritis(since i was 25), didn't want to,lose the majority of my stomach, needed the quicker weight loss and didn't mind the other problems bypass might cause. Didn't want the Constipation sleepers seem to have. But those are some of my feelings but I know and respect my sleeved friends, that surgery worked well, for them and they are in their 30s to 50. My gosh,I'm 72, I have a young friend who's having a lap-band, I doubt if its gonna work well for her but she made her own choice and its not my place to convert her. I'll keep on watching her, not even sure if she truly considered the others. My local hospital still does do lap-band , I suspect Erika just didn't want to go out of town. I do wish her well as I do everyone else. As the ole Carnival Barker said "You pays your money You takes your choice"

You need to call your office and make an appointment to see your surgeon if possible. You should feel comfortable with whatever procedure you are having done to your body. I would not base your choice on what procedure any of your friends had. Either procedure could work for you. Discuss with the surgeon his reasons why he recommends bypass for you. Bottom line is it’s still your decision what surgery you have.

I agree with Kim. Please schedule an appointment to talk to your surgeon. Your body and your health issues will differ from your friends. Both surgeries have pros and cons, but you need to choose the one that you're comfortable with, and that is best for your medical and lifestyle needs.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
