For those that have been too tight....

Recommended Posts

:confused:I am currently too tight. Not to the point I can't drink Water (cause I got a slight unfill), but to the point I can't really get any solids down. My NP is out of town until Saturday so I will probably be getting a slight unfill then. In the mean time, is it just me or is it easier for some people to get things down when they are at a slightly reclined angle. I know on my first fill if something got stuck, I could do a little "wiggle dance" in my seat and it would work its way thru. Any one else notice this?

Whoa, quite the opposite. If I am anything but straight up and down when I swallow things tend to go awry. I've been able to wiggle before and get stuff to go down, but there are also plenty of times I've done the wiggle dance and NOTHING went anywhere.

I heard something about pineapple juice, never tried it but apparently that gets a lot of things unstuck. You may want to try that if you have nothing else to go on. Good luck on the de-fill. I was in the same place 2 days ago, i was really tight for 5 days and i couldnt take it anymore, now i love this new fill level (got a .5cc and then had to have removed .25 , i guess i was closer to my sweet spot than i had thought)

I am in pretty much the same situation right now.

I am slightly over filled I think . It is some what sparatic as to what i can and can not eat. I had a fill on the 5th of this month .

SO long story short , I am going in on Monday to see the doc , I am not sure if he is going to give me an unfill or not ? I am pretty sure he will give me a slight unfill. BUT he has instructed me to be on liquids until Monday .

So that is what I will be doing .

It was horrible when I was over filled. I had to sleep sitting up. If I didn't, Water would come up in the middle of the night and I felt like I was drowning. Then I had some taken out, but apparently not enough. I kept thinking it would loosen up, but I got tired of living on Soup and Protein drinks. I had to sip a Protein Drink and wait for that sip go go down. I told him just to take out a tiny bit.

It's such a fine line between over filled and just right. Now I feel like I can eat anything I want again.

I am not THAT tight but I can feel it for sure. For instance in the morning I can actually feel how tight I am if that makes sense , i cant really explain it.

I can eat semi solids , but my doc has tried to get me up to soilds twice since my fill on the 5th and I just cant do it. Even things like Potatoes and Chili wont go down , but even that is off and on ,sometimes they do sometimes they dont. So i think its TOO sparatic for him to allow me to go on until i loosen up ? But who knows . We will see on Monday .

What's amazing is some people need 4.0cc (or slightly more) in a 4cc band to be tight. I was at 1.6 ccs total, couldn't eat waterdowned *s%t if my life depended on it. At 1.6, I lost 14.9 lbs. in 5 weeks, but was miserable. Went back yesterday for a .5cc unfill, went directly to a mexican restaurant (now don't fuss at me) and ate some nachos with NO feeling of restriction what so ever. I WILL have to be careful at 1.55 ccs. At 1.6 I didn't have to do any of the work, the band did it all. I was miserable, no solids, got stuck on V-8 juice yesterday morning. Then the .5 unfill at noon and the flood gates are open. For those of you who are having trouble either way, remember a tiny bit makes a world of difference. Airwayman

I haven't had a fill since July 11th, but still have days when I have to throw up with just a few bites. Other days I can eat anything. There is no consistency to what is going on. When I got my last fill, they did an xray and said I have a stretched esophagus - not sure if they has anything to do with this. I wouldn't mind the band if what I could eat was consistent. It is so embarrassing eating out with friends sometimes.

What you're experiencing is 'band spasm.' Think of the band as a pit bull. If you want a pit bull to bite you what do you do? You taunt it, poke it, etc. You'll get bit everytime. Conversely, if you want to make friends with the dog, you gently pet it. The band is the same way. It's that FIRST bite, the one you stuff in your mouth, chew a couple of times, swallow a little bit and then think "oh, I better chew, chew, chew." Too late, you alread slapped your band in the face. That first swallow did it. Now you chew, chew and swallow but it's too late, you're just packing food on top of a problem. All you can do is PB or wait it out. How do I know this? I've done it a lot and when I see the size of the piece of food that comes up I'm amazed I swallowed a bite that big! I thought I chewed it up...I did, most of it, just not every bite. I also realized I was eating too fast; put your fork down between bites, that helped me. Start slow, pat your band, then once it's receptive, you should be able to eat a reasonable amount. Remember, it's band spasm that's doing it and like the pit bull, the band will win everytime if you provoke it. Airwayman

Remember, everything affects restriction. Absolutely everything. Time of day, TOM, weather, hydration, food temp, mood, altitude, everything. Some of these are things you have no control over for the most part. Some days your band might like cold foods, the next day it might like warm foods. With time you get to know how you react to different things.

I've read in other threads that being dehydrated really makes the band seem tighter to some people. Maybe if you try upping your Fluid intake that might help.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
