Anyone go for their post op appt and talk the dr into a fill?

Recommended Posts

I was banded on 10/08 and I am feeling great (already exercising 30min a day) travelling alot for business across the country and feeling quite hungry.

Due to my travel situation my post op appt is not until 10/30 with a first fill on 11/19. I really feel great and was wondering if it is even worth my breat to try and talk the dr into a fill. The main reason he is waiting until 11/19 is because I am travelling on business to Asia and India on Nov 10.

What do you think?

I don't get my band until December.. but the first thing in that popped into my mind was:

Doctor knows best....I would trust your doctor.

No, I would say NO FILL definitely. You could easily be stuck in some other country and have an incident with your band (like the delayed reaction a lot of folks have where it suddenly gets tighter on them....two or three weeks AFTER they get the fill.) Your doctor is being rightly cautious. You've got your whole life ahead of you. Don't rush it.

Good point Kacee - I am so impressed with your weightloss. Our stats are very similar (my highest weight was 222 and I was 219 the day of surgery). Can you give me any overall pointers? I had a goal of 10 pounds a month and you seem to be doing just that. Any tips you have would be greatly appreciated.

Definitely wait. I'm off to Thailand in mid-November for 2 1/2 weeks which will also push my first fill out a little bit. However I was banded 10/19.

Biggest reason for waiting is because of the unknown food issues. While you can find lots of Soup dishes in Asia, there's all the rice and unknown textures.

Better safe than sorry. You'll have a chance to learn your band domestically.

Kacee,

I was just baned last week at the similar weight you started. I don't feel any restrictions now, my swelling must have gone down. After my first fill what will it feel like when I eat, the same as when I was swollen still? Did you change all of what you ate to lose weight or do you still eat what you want just obviosuly much less?

my Doctor won't do a fill if you are going to be away for two weeks after the fill, as a precaution- I don't really know what to expect- two more weeks until my first fill

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
