Stevia Anyone???

Recommended Posts

Just wondering...is anyone using Stevia in the place of Splenda, Equal, Sweet and Low? I'm thinking about buying some because I've heard it's all natural and better for you.

I heard good things about Stevia, so I bought a box of it, but I have yet to use it.

Stevia is actually an herb and it is much better for you than sugar or sweetener. I have not tried it yet but I heard to be careful cause it is very sweet and it is easy to over sweeten things.

You have to start tiny with Stevia, then add to get to to the sweetness you desire. It kind of reminds me of saccharin but I don't get the feelings like I want to eat right after like I do with Splenda, and I don't get the NutraSweet headaches. I love it.

I LOVE stevia. It comes in handy little packets now, too. One packet of stevia is about the same sweetness of one packet of splenda or equal, et al.

I also heard it was good. I bought some and will try it sometime this week, probably in a cup of tea first.

Stevia hasn't been approved by the FDA as a sweetener, so it would be hard for companies to know how to advertise it in a Protein Drink, I guess. It's just a dried leaf. I really like the taste...no bitter aftertaste of artificial sweeteners. I've also heard that it doesn't raise your blood sugar like other artificial sweeteners, but I haven't seen any studies. They have little packets you can carry in your purse too. Last summer I bought a stevia plant, to grow my own. But it wasn's a very strong plant or I did something wrong. I'd like to try it again. Got it from one of those nursery catalogs.

I had previously tried samples of Sweet Leaf and NuStevia and had decided that of the two I liked the Sweet Leaf best. But when I looked for it this weekend at Whole Foods I could only find the NuStevia packets. So, I have been using the NuStevia in Decaf coffee, and I like it a lot and plan to use it as much as possible in place of Splenda, etc...

Someone was asking me about Protein shakes with Stevia in it vs. other sweeteners. Anyone aware of such a product?

I'm in a rush and don't have a lot of time to reaserach this, but I know I saw a couple of places that sold various drinks with Stevia, here's a couple of links I found on the fly (WASaBB can you let us know about the quality of the Protein? ):

I use Stevia instead of other artificial sweetners because it is all natrual and does not have any of the chemicals the other ones have. I use it in my coffee and tea, and I also really like the SweetLeaf liquid Stevia that comes in many different flavors. You can use these in beverages or in other recipes to cook and bake with. I found a great recipe for a sugar free pumpkin pie on the SweetLeaf website!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
