Should I Expect To Feel Worse After Feeling So Good?

Recommended Posts

I am now 3 days out of my Gastric Sleeve and feel great -- passing gas is easy, I've had a BM, and I'm drinking 60oz of fluids easily. I am off of pain meds and walking around but it seems too good to be true.

Should I be expecting a dip or a drastic change in feeling good? I don't want to ger overzealous in my walking/water intake. Thanks!

Well yes and no. Your gut is just waking up, you still have inflammation and swelling from major surgery so expect some minor setbacks along the way. You could be really lucky and breeze through this, good for you. And there can be some real exhaustion because you cannot ingest enough nutrition these first few weeks - you can be doing fine for several hours and then - bam! - you are just done, you have to take a nap. You could also have some adjustments when advancing to each food stage. As far as being active, I didn't have any issue at all in that area - just don't lift anything until cleared for that, bend carefully, guard against bumping or falling - but walk daily.

Welcome to the other side.

Hi. I had sleeve surgery 12/28/17 and it was smooth sailing until this past Tuesday or Wednesday. That's when I felt a major drop in energy and became beyond exhausted. (I live with chronic pain & fatigue that leaves me exhausted regularly and this was reminiscent of my worst days.) I'm also experiencing daily nausea (had just a few fleeting moments within first 5 days home) and diarrhea.

You may not (I hope not) experience this at all. I was surprised by my own experience so I wanted to answer your post. Wishing you only great days.

I have felt terrific since hours after my surgery, and honesty haven't hit the wall at all. I think the big keys for me have been eating well, getting sleep, and continuing my walking program daily.

Once I hit three weeks and 1000 calories a day...I felt very much like my old self.

Thank you for the clarity and honesty ♡ I'm excited and will be on the lookout for those pieces

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
