Recommended Posts

I’m about 7 months out and should probably know the answer to this question...BUT can you stretch your sleeve with liquids or chugging Water? Sometimes I feel uncomfortable after a couple of gulps and then get worried...

Thanks!!!

I don't think liquids linger in your stomach long enough to stretch it out.

Big debate on if you can stretch your sleeve. Very few people need a revision..Enough said.

A couple gulps and you feel uncomfortable. To me, it sounds like you are feeling the restriction from your surgery.

I distance run. I can't chug or gulp Water at the aid/refueling stations on the route. I feel the same sensation you are describing.

Stop gulping and chugging water. Start sipping.

How do you stay hydrated, if chugging water at aid stations and Camelbaks aren't options?

I have a nathans running hydration vest (favorite running geek accessory) I'm able to sip through the bite straw without sucking in air.

They are like camelBaks but hold tighter to your body for less bounce.

There are also belts that hold small Water bottles or hand held water bottles with straps. That's what I use for my runs and have done up to full marathons that way.

But yeah, IF It's possible to stretch your sleeve (and the sources I trust--with scientific evidence to back them up--say you can't) then water isn't going to do it. You're just feeling your restriction. And you may be able to gulp as time goes on. Some of us can, some can't. I can do 2-3 gulps, but that's about it. I'm over four years out.

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
