February bypass buddies?

Recommended Posts

I would love to be your buddy. I am scheduled for bypass Feb 21st. I am 5' 6" and at 312 now. Have an appointment this Friday to see nutritionist. According to their notebook I will be on Protein Shakes for 4 weeks pre-op. I already have approval from my insurance but my surgeon is really booked out hence the Feb 21 date.

I’m also feb 21st! 5’7 & 328 lbs

I've got my insurance approval and a surgery date of Feb. 15, as long as everything goes according to plan at my final appointment on Jan. 30 with my lab work and all that.

Good luck to everyone.

What sort (if any) pre-op diets do you all have to do?

It's funny now that I'm trying to be diligent about the starch free that it seems to be everywhere and is more tempting!

@RunningLibrarian what's a starch-free diet? Just like a no-carb thing - no wheat, rice, potatoes, etc.?

Yeah.. only carbs from veggies and fruit.. No bread, (or breaded stuff), corn, potatoes, rice, peas.... that sort of thing. It's to shrink the liver so its easier for the doctor to lift to get at the stomach for the surgery.

Oh man, caffeine withdrawal is the pits! I gradually stepped down, then quit the caffeine when I first started with the program... I didn't want to go thru that and surgery stuff at the same time.

      Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

        As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

      Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

        Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

        Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

        Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

      Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
