Help Please: Nauseous from Water!

Recommended Posts

I do know of one lady who had a bad anxiety attack while on the liquid diet. She freaked herself out enough to believe she might be having a heart attack and ended up at the ER needing a xanax shot to calm down. I think some of us can have a lot of big emotions as we inch perilously closer to the actual act of having surgery...and that can set off some weird physical reactions.

OR...

You could be coming down with the flu...so keep track of your temperature. LOL.

OR...

Maybe you drank too fast and gagged a little....or who knows?

Wish I could be more help, but nope...haven't heard of that.

I had the exact same experience. The Protein Drinks were gagging me and the nausea was horrendous. The first 3 days I had 1-2 shakes a day. Less than 300 calories. My doctor prefers an all liquid 2 week diet. However, in the Bariatric class we all had to take, someone asked the coordinator about the food version of the LSD (liver shrinking diet). The coordinator said that whatever works can be done. A lot of people like the easiness of doing the shakes because they don’t have to count their calories and MACROS. Needless to say I’ve incorporated some food into my preop diet. It’s very little food and not the kind of food I’d typically enjoy, but food nonetheless. And I feel 100% better. The key is to have less than 25 carbs per day. Approx 700 calories and less than 10 grams of fat. 90+ grams of Protein. I use MyFitnessPal to log all my food choices. And I’m down 16lbs in the first 7 days. I’m doing something right. Hang in there. Don’t be afraid of reaching out to your doctor and seeing if you can incorporate some food.

Has this happened to anyone? Just want to know if it's normal?

Yes ... to me couple of times in the 13 weeks post-op.

Yes, the happening is normal. The frequency varies.

Oh jeeze, I was under the impression you were still pre op, and doing the preop diet? I can’t see that in the app. I just saw your post on another thread and assumed. Disregard my suggestion if you are post op.

Again, I think during these beginning stages our bodies are adjusting to such few calories, carbs etc. Nausea is inevitable. This too shall pass.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
