How long do I have to wait for Caffeine???

Recommended Posts

My nut recommended to cut back to one cup per day and no restriction after surgery.

I would say to ask your surgeon. I got approval to have coffee around 8 weeks post-op.

My NUT said no caffeine ever post surgery but when speaking to my doctor he said that was a little to restrictive and if I was getting my fluids in I could have caffeine in moderation after 6 months. He said the issue they worry about is dehydration but further out from surgery I should be okay and he doesn't agree with the NUTS standpoint on caffeine. I don't drink coffee but I love iced tea and drink about 32 oz of tea a day and 32-40 ounces of Water as well. I now drink fresh brewed black tea with caffeine daily and have no issues and it helps give me a little boost I need in the morning.

I was told that I must give up caffeinated beverages altogether. I am fine with that because I could always take them or leave them. It must be difficult for people who have the caffeine and nicotine addictions.

I had the full bypass and was told i had to give it up entirely as well. I wasn't a coffee drinker prior so it hasn't been that big a deal. I do miss my ice tea's though.

I just had my 6 week follow up on Wednesday, my NUT informed me that as long as I was meeting my fluids and Protein, I could start drinking coffee but to start slow with 1/2 cup of black coffee (no sweeteners) I was thrilled.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
